Three Days Later
"Babe, come downstairs!" I shouted. I had a big surprise for her. Alexis and her dude Trey came to hit us up. I saw them at the jewelry store while I was out and I thought it would be nice for De'arra to see her friend.
"I'm busy. What is it?!"
"Just come down. It'll only take a second."
She came down the steps with Diar in hand while I waited for her at the end of the staircase.
"What is it?" She asked.
"Come." I took Diar from her and guided her to the living room where she saw Alexis. She screamed and ran and hugged her tight.
"I missed you." Alexis said.
"I missed you too. What are you doing here?"
"We came down for a couple of days to chill. We rented a house not too far from here." She smiled.
"Oh my gosh! You look bomb as usual."
"So do you. Bring the baby let me see her."
"Oh my gosh! Hi. It's aunty Lexis." She smiled and held out her hands for Diar to come. Shockingly she leaned over and went to her.
"Girl she never let's anyone but me, her dad and her grandma's hold her so you lucky."
"She's knows aunty is an angel." She smiled.
"Yeah right!" Trey scoffed which made De'arra and I laugh.
"Anyway, what's up with you man?!" I took Trey to the kitchen and left them there squealing.
"Nothing. Just chilling."
"You want anything?"
"Give me a shot of something man."
"What's up?"
"Man Alexis done missed her period."
"Oh shit! You know what that mean, go buy them diapers right now." As soon as I poured the shot and handed it to him he downed it and slid the glass back over for another one.
"Man I don't mind if she is pregnant but what I can't take is her unsureness. She's afraid to take the test."
"Why?"
"She's scared to see the results."
"Man y'all crazy."
"I bought six pregnancy tests for her and they're all sitting on the bathroom counter collecting dust."
"How long did she miss it?"
"Three weeks."
"Has this happened before?"
"Yeah but her period eventually comes. I don't know why she's so scared this time."
"Man you probably been going ham on her."
"Yessir." He laughed and took the shot. "Your little girl's getting big."
"Yeah. I love being a dad."
"I hope one day I feel that joy you feel." He nodded his head.
"Absolutely."
"What y'all got going for tonight?"
"Nothing. We barely do anything since we got our daughter."
"Well we can link up tomorrow or whenever." He suggested.
"Yeah for sure."
I took a shot and slid the bottle over to him but he shook his head.
"Man that's too strong for me." He laughed.
De'arra and Alexis both walked in and joined us. Alexis was still holding Diar who was smiling and laughing with her.
"Babe, you see how good she's staying with Alexis."
"Yeah. You a natural." I said to her making her smile. I noticed Trey looking at her like he was thinking something. He's probably visualizing how she would look with their own kid. I really hope she is because they would make great parents.
"You're so cute." She said.
"Lex, you want a shot?" De'arra asked holding up the bottle.
"Uhm, no, I, I'm not. I'm taking a break from alcohol."
Just the way she couldn't get her sentence through just confirmed to me that she knows she might be pregnant. Trey looked at me then back at her and said nothing.
"You ready?" He asked.
"Yeah but I want to take Diar." She pouted.
"Please, take her!" De'arra joked.
"Better not." I laughed.
"DeMar, I'll see you bro." He shook my hand and said good bye to De'arra while Alexis held onto Diar.
"Ok girl, give me my baby."
She kissed Diar's cheeks then gave her to De'arra. She hugged her goodbye and whispered something in her ear which made De'arra gasp. She motioned her to keep quiet but I pretended like I didn't see or hear anything.
"Ok, bye y'all." I waved at them.
"De'arra I'll call you." She shouted.
"Ok. Love you."
"Love you too."
"I missed her so much." She sighed.
"What did she whisper in your ear?" I said once closing the door.
"Girl code. None of your business." She sassed.
"I hear you. Trey wants us to have a double date tomorrow."
"Great."
"Aye I need to talk to you about something."
"What is it?"
"When I go back to Chicago are you coming with me or are you staying here?. I know you love this house because this is our real home."
"I don't know. I want to stay here but I want to be around you as well."
"So?"
"I honestly don't know babe. I have to think about it."
"Well let me know cause I gotta go back in September."
"Alright."
"You know your girl Alexis might be pregnant."
"Trey said that?"
"Yeah. Well he isn't sure because she's scared to take the test."
"She IS pregnant."
"How you know?"
"I can sense it. She has this motherly vibe now. Any woman can feel it."
"That's not accurate."
"Yes I am accurate because I sensed it from the time she was holding Diar. Trust me babe, I know she is. Besides, she told me she was when they were leaving."
"I knew she told yo ass. I knew it."
I snapped.
"Don't say anything to Trey. She doesn't know how to tell him yet."
"Why?"
"I don't know. She's supposed to call me later when he leaves to go out. Babe please don't tell him anything."
"I won't."
"Good. I'm gonna be an aunty. I'm so happy."
