"So, how's everything?"
"We're good." Diar and I were at his mom's house. We came to L.A. for the convention that was this friday. I didn't tell DeMar about my ex texting me because I knew he wouldn't want me to go to the convention. As for Dre, he's never texted me back since that night and I'm glad he hasn't.
"Oh, miss Diane, can you watch Diar for me friday in the afternoon? I have somewhere to be."
"You know you don't have to ask me. I'll be happy to watch my grand baby." She smiled.
"Thanks."
"Oh, DeMar's calling." She held her phone and answered it as I played with Diar.
"Mom?"
"Yeah?"
"What's going on? You seen or talked to De'arra today? I've been calling her and she ain't answering." He sounded worried.
"They're here." She looked at me.
"Ok."
"How was your day?" She asked.
"It's alright. I got a match tonight."
"Did you eat?"
"Yeah."
"Daddy?" Diar turned and asked me. She knows her dad's voice so well.
"Yes babygirl."
"Your daughter wants to see you." His mom stooped down so Diar could get a view of her dad.
"Babygirl!"
"Daddy."
"What you doing?"
"Ice qweam."
"You eating ice cream?"
"Mommy, no ice qweam."
"Don't worry, she'll get you ice cream. You miss me?"
She nodded her head.
"Ok. Mom?"
"Yeah." His mom stood up as she answered him.
"Let me talk to De'arra for a second."
Oh boy. I thought. I took a deep breath and held the phone. He looked calm yet angry.
"What happened to your phone?"
"It's on do not disturb. I forgot to turn it off."
"Hmm. Ok."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing. I was worried, that's all."
"I'm sorry."
"I'll call you later. And answer your phone next time."
"Dang bae, I said I forgot." Since when is he so snappy. I felt like I wanted to cry but I made sure to hold it in.
"Let me talk to my daughter."
I cleared my throat and called Diar over to say goodbye. He smiled and laughed with her until they told each other that they loved them.
"Babe you mad at me?" I whispered.
"Just answer when I call." And with that he hung up.
"Did something happen between you two?" Miss Diane asked. She saw me eyes watering.
"No."
"It's not like him to be so hasty."
"I know." I fanned my eyes and made sure to not let any slip out. "He's probably stressed about his game. I'm sure he didn't mean to act like that."
