Yet another day, wonderful world
I'll say it once and only once. I hate cliche scenarios.
After the hundred and thousands of books I've been forced to read in my life, it's simple for me to spot an awkward scene without much effort. For instance, a story where the childhood friend loses to someone the main character just met at the start of the story.
In my opinion, stories like these are just a sad excuse to make up some sort of drama within the story, even if a certain number of them are actually not half bad. Eventually, tropes like this will become nothing more than annoying to those looking for a decent story.
Such events don't happen in reality. When faced with a similar situation, any sane man would choose to go out with the childhood friend first because they've supposedly known them forever now. There's realistically no situation where the so-called "female lead" would ever be picked because the protagonist doesn't know them prior to the start of the story. Do you see now? How tedious these types of stories can be?
When a story uses a trope that's constantly being used by other stories, the chances of its success will be considerably low. That's why I eventually stopped reading books, simply because all of them have the exact same premise with an ending that can be expected at the very first volume. Such stories are nothing more than a waste of precious time.
That's why, when I was called up to the rooftop by a fellow classmate of mine, I couldn't help but feel disappointed.
"There's no helping it, she likely doesn't want to be kept waiting for too long anyway."
As I ascend up the stairs secretly, I made sure no one was around to track me.
It may be seen as a bit too cautious but this is supposed to be a secret meeting between two students, it wouldn't be ideal if someone followed me. After all, my actions could be seen as suspicious.
The moment I arrive at the door leading to the rooftop, a certain sign catches my attention. Apparently this section of the school is prohibited from entry, this includes students, teachers and other staff members of the school. The only one that should have any obligation to enter would be director Sakayanagi, choosing a spot like this... isn't it a bit risky?
Normally restricted areas like this would be littered with security cameras. Although the sign is clearly made to ward off students from coming here, some people might let their curiosity get the better of them.
This could be some sort of trap. Then again, she's my own classmates, would she really drag me down like this after what I had said yesterday?
Whatever the reason may be, I brush it aside for the time being and walk up to the roof.
It's quite early in the morning, yet the sun is shining brightly in the distance.
I would say it's mesmerizing, but it's just a nuisance considering how much I need to squint my eyes in order to not become a blind Joe (just my imagination). Though even through the blinding rays of sunlight, I manage to spot a familiar figure standing near a part of the fence surrounding the rooftop.
"The location you picked is a bit annoying you know? Blinding light, restricted area, a large amount of security cameras- don't tell me you're so apathetic you didn't care to look at the sign."
My voice of complaints reached her ears, causing her to turn around to face me. Indeed, Yamamura looks as dead as ever. If this were a fantasy novel, you'd mistake her for being hypnotized.
For a moment, the two of us state at one another. It seems like she was observing my current state with interest. I can't help but feel uncomfortable.
"Miyasato-kun, do you exercise regularly?"
