Freya has spent nearly every moment since her brother's death in the church tower searching for a way to bring him back. It wasn't until she could barely keep her eyes open that she headed back to the Abbatoir to rest.
As she walked past Rebekah's room, she heard the sounds of her little sister crying. Freya sighed, she was never good at offering emotional support. Rather, she preferred to solve the problem.
This wasn't something she could solve though.
"Rebekah," Freya said gently as she opened the door. "Can I come in?"
At her answer, Freya pushed her way into the room, seeing her little sister curled up on her bed, gripping her pillow. Freya's heart broke at the sight. She never had the chance to know Rebekah as a little girl but at that moment she could imagine Rebekah as a child. Small, defenseless, and scared.
"Bex." Freya said gently, as she climbed into the bed with Rebekah, wrapping her arms around her. Rebekah released her pillow, opting to cling to her older sister instead.
"I don't know how to go on without him." Rebekah whimpered. "For a thousand years, he's always been there."
"I know. I know." Freya rubbed her sister's back soothingly. "But he did what he did so that we all get to go on. He sacrificed himself for our family."
"It's not fair. None of this is fair." Rebekah sat up, pulling away from Freya. "We were finally going to be happy. He was finally going to be happy."
"He's at peace now." Freya attempted to reassure her sister. She wasn't sure if she even believed it though.
"Is he?" Rebekah asked, not expecting an answer. "I just want to know that he is."
Freya couldn't offer any words of reassurance. She knew Elijah had done unspeakable things in the past, and while he may have done them for family, she didn't think the motivation took away from the acts themselves. She just hoped he could find his way to peace one day.
"Tell me about Elijah as a human." Freya attempted to distract her sister. "I never got to know any of you when you were human."
And so Rebekah did. She told Freya about the time Elijah learned to braid her hair because Esther was too consumed by perfecting her magic to bother learning the Viking ways. She told her about the time Kol got in trouble because of a dalliance with a neighbor's daughter and Elijah had to intervene before the neighbor challenged Kol to defend his daughter's honor. She told Freya about his secret relationship with Tatia that he thought no one knew about. But Rebekah knew.
"He was so happy. He wanted to be a husband to Tatia and father to her child. He would have made a great father." Rebekah said sadly.
"Maybe he's with them now." Freya suggested.
"Maybe." Rebekah shrugged. "But I fear, even if he is at peace, he will be waiting for Hayley."
Freya had never seen Elijah with any of his past lovers, but she had to agree. She couldn't imagine him ever moving on from Hayley. They both sighed. Elijah would likely be alone at peace for a long while.
"Speaking of love, Keelin has been great." Rebekah smirked at her sister. "She keeps trying to get me to eat. She even brought me blood."
Freya laughed at this. She could imagine Keelin's face as she tried to get the thousand-year-old vampire to drink from a blood bag. She knew Keelin was trying to help where she could. She had brought Freya food all night, checking in on her.
"She's pretty great." Freya smiled softly.

"How are you doing?" Hayley walked into the dining area, where Klaus was pouring himself yet another bourbon.
