She opened the apartment door of 4A to walk back downstairs and ran right into Leonard. She gasped and let out a laugh. But then started to feel a little embarrassed.

“You scared the hell out of me. What are you doing in the hallway?”

“I think a better question would be what are you doing in my apartment?” he laughed, though he seemed quite upset.

Something was clearly bothering him. Andy knew she wasn't a close friend to him and didn't want to be pushy, but she didn't want to just walk away.

“Yeah...hey, are you ok?”

“I'm fine...” he trailed off, “Penny and I just...got in a fight...again.”

“In the middle of the night?”

“Yeah, it's kind of a long story, but I'm interested in your explanation. You weren't stealing anything, right?”

Andy laughs. No...unless you have something I could smuggle out in this short robe.

“I've seen crazier things happen. Like Walowitz getting any sort of action from a female.” Leonard jokes.

Andy tries to keep her laugh quiet. “Are you planning on going back to bed now?”

“No, to be honest, I don't think I'm going to get any sleep. I'll just be lying in bed thinking of Penny.”

“Well, do you want to come downstairs to mine and cup of tea...or a coffee and whiskey?” Andy asks, trying to cheer him up.

“Sure, why not? And you can give me your explanation as to why you were sneaking out of my apartment.”

Leonard is so easy to talk to, Andy thought as she poured a bit of whisky in his coffee, he shows so much more human emotion than Sheldon. She felt a bit guilty for thinking that, but there was no way not to.

“Here. You've had a long night. This'll take the edge off.”

He laughs, “Hopefully. Penny and I have just been having all sorts of issues lately. She's never told me she loves me...and I guess that bothers me.”

Andy felt so sorry for Leonard. Penny was beautiful and he was clearly insecure about being able to compete with the attention she got from other guys. She knew how he felt, because she had always felt the same way in a relationship. She wished she could understand Penny's side and help him out with some advice, but she had told a guy she had only known for weeks that she loved him. You're no help other than providing whiskey, she tells herself.

“I'm really sorry. Relationships can be so confusing sometimes. I'm sure she really does love you, Leonard. I mean the way she was talking about you the night I met her...”

Leonard is staring at her, hanging on every word she's about to say. Anything about Penny he could know out, he wanted to.

“She adores you. You don't have to worry. Maybe she's just scared. I wish I could understand, but I'm going to have to admit that I can relate to you more in this situation.”

He takes another sip of his coffee and gives her a tired smile. “It sucks to be us then, huh?”
