IN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE

Jungwon opened his eyes to the view of white ceilings and walls. It was just his bed and a door to the bathroom inside the lonely room.

It was his daily view of surroundings every day and the only thing that gives color to his dull life is the small glass window at top of his bed. He would always sit on the side of his bed and watch the view from the glass window, hoping that one day he could go outside the hospital again.

He heard the door open and a view of a handsome doctor greeted Jungwon, followed by a smiling nurse who had a tray of food in his arms.

“Good morning, Jungwon,” The doctor greeted with a smile. “How are you feeling today?”

“It’s better now that I see you,” Jungwon said as he tried sitting up.

The sweet, young and handsome doctor helped him sit up while the nurse placed the tray of food on the table.

“That’s good to hear,” Dr. Park said.

“What time is it, Jay?” Jungwon asked, looking up at the doctor.

“Breakfast is served at seven, so it’s around that time.”

Jungwon sighed, his friends would come by ten today.

“Were you waiting for someone?” The nurse, Lee Heeseung, asked.

“Riki and Sunoo said they’ll stop by,” Jungwon said.

“Yeah,” Dr. Park speaks as he gives Heeseung a glance. “I have to visit the other patients; I’ll leave you for now.”

“Will you come back?” Jungwon asked.

“Of course, babe, once I’ve finished my job,” Jay assures, giving Jungwon a soft kiss on his cheeks.

Jungwon smiles faintly. He held onto his boyfriend’s arm to stop him from leaving yet.

“I had a dream…a very bad dream,” Jungwon said.

The doctor and the nurse shared a look.

“I’ll take care of the other patients,” Heeseung then said before he excused himself, leaving the doctor and Jungwon alone to themselves.

Jay sits beside Jungwon, “What happened in your dream?”

Jungwon couldn’t stop the tears from falling off his eyes as he got a flashback of his nightmare last night.

“Jay, you…”

The doctor hugged him in his arms, letting his white coat get wet from Jungwon's tears.

“You forgot about me,” Jungwon said in between his sobs.

“That’s only a dream, Jungwon. I’ll never forget about you,” the doctor reassures.

Jungwon hugged the doctor back.

“I know, but the scene keeps on appearing in my dream every night,” Jungwon cried.

“Jungwon.”

“Hm?”

“I love you, okay?”

“I love you too, Jay…”

The once lonely room gets loud and in chaos when finally, Jungwon’s friends arrive.

Riki and Sunoo always visit, every single day. They never miss a chance to make him smile ever since he entered the hospital because of his deadly disease.
