The summer rain came down in purposeful deluge, surrendering Brett's ears to the futility of his evening practice session.

He carefully unwound his bow and placed it in its case where it belonged. It had been a long day; his partner would soon be returning from his now-most-likely-ruined walk. Brett went about preparing their evening meal: stir fry, Eddy's favourite.

As Brett plated the meal he heard the front door bang shut, accompanied by the sound of shoes being carefully placed on the rack. Eddy wandered from the hall into the kitchen where Brett stood, busy with dinner. He sidled over to Brett and sneaked his arms around his partner's waist.

"Evening, Love, " he yawned.
"Heya, Eddy. Early night for us, I think. I'm exhausted, you must be too?"
"Walking dead," Eddy chuckled into Brett's neck.
Moving through to the sitting room and relaxing into the sofa, they ate in comfortable silence, each enjoying the other's company, and soon decided on heading to bed.

They clambered under the cool sheets and Brett snuggled into Eddy's side, breathing a sigh of contentment.

"Can you hear that sound, my love?" Eddy whispered into the darkness.
"The rain, Eddy?"
"Yes, the rain, my love. I love that sound."
"Mm, the sound of the summer rain..."

They drifted into peaceful sleep, held fast in each others' arms.

Morning will soon come; day will break and the world will wake, but for now, the summer rain flows over the Earth and, inch by inch, the flowers begin to grow...
