"𝐖on't you wear my ring around your neck?"

"To tell the world I'm your ours, by heck," Ellie quietly sung, her back against the wall while her eyes were on the ceiling.

"Let them see..."

"... your love for me."

"Elizabeth Mary Hopper!" a familiar, angry voice shrieked. "Turn down the music!"

"It's not even that loud!" Ellie shouted back, though she obeyed her mother and fiddle with the volume knob.

"Are you even ready for school!?"

Ellie sighed, annoyed, and removed the record from her phonograph. She carefully tucked it away in its King Creole case and put it in her drawer.

"I'll see you after school," she promised, closing the door and grabbing her backpack.

As she was sprinting down the hall, she bumped into her twin brother, James Hopper, or 'Jim', as most referred to him. She about fell, but Jim quickly grabbed her shoulders.

"Woah, slow down there," he cautioned, setting her upright. "You ready for school?"

"Of course I am," she answered, already starting to run down the hall. "I'm always ready!"

Mrs. Hopper was standing over the counter, whipping up some sort of desert for later. She slowly turned her head to the door, her eyes squinting to a glare.

"You are not wearing that to school today. Change," she ordered.

"No."

Ellie's mom's face slowly turned red, her knuckles paling from her grip on the counter. "Change. Now."

"Mom, it's just a shirt and pants," she argued. "Just like what anyone would wear!"

"You know what it represents."

"No, I don't," Ellie snapped, sarcasm dripping from her voice. "Please, enlighten me."

Mrs. Hopper, annoyed with the teen's attitude, ignored her and went back to her cooking. Ellie scoffed and walked out the door.

"Goodbye to you, too!"

"Joyce!" Dali called. "Have you seen my homework?"

"No," Joyce answered.

Dali sighed and ran to the living room, checking under every magazine and newspaper she found. Her mother quietly entered the room, a knowing smirk on her face.

"Looking for this?"

Dali looked up from her searching, relief spreading across her face when she noticed what was in her Mrs. Horowitz's hand.

"It was in the front room," she informed. "Are you missing anything else?"

"I don't think so," Dali responded, racking her brain for anything she might've missed. "I have my chemistry homework, my book, my math textbook... Yep, I got everything."

"Drive careful," her mom warned. "There's still-"

"Yeah, yeah, there's still ice on the roads," Dali recited, quickly giving her mom a hug. "I'll be careful. Bye!"
