Berkeley's pov
Ever since Berkeley Bertier was a young girl she danced like a cheerleader at her brothers football games
Now she is a cheerleader at her brother and his friends games in high school
"Come on ladies, let's impress the boys when they come out the locker room" Coach Evens said making all the girls giggle but me who gave an eye roll
Berkeley and her best friend Penelope Davies loved to dance but I think she only danced to impress my brothers friend Ray. Ray is the definition on rude-asshole I can't believe my brother is friends with such a dickhead
To be honest all my brothers friends are my friends like Alan Bosley he had been my brothers closest friend since preschool and he always was round my house for dinner so we all practically grew up together
It was just recently me and Alan were waiting for my brother to finish that days practice when a riot broke out between black people and white people "I think this is about that poor boy" I say as Alan nods. We quickly run to the school and to the field "guys a riot broke out because of that black boy that got shot" Alan said through the fence
Gerry my big brother looked up from what he was doing with ray (asshole) and we all ran to take a look.
Once we got there coach yoast's car pulled up infront of us "Gerry,ray,Alan if u ever wanna play for me again I suggest u get in this truck now, that includes u Berkeley" yeast said as we all climb into the truck
We got to the school again and walked to yoasts office "you boys are gonna cool off, come with me to my office" he said
"Help me finish packing my things" he finished
"Gerry, son ur hearts in the right place, but u ought we know better than to embarrass he coach like that" coach Tyrell said to Gerry as me Alan and Rey followed
"Hell, why don't u just kick'em all of the team?" Gerry questioned
"I don't want to play with any of those black animals." Gerry finishes and i elbow him
We get inside the office and a man was stood holding a wining ball by the window
"Who are u?" Tyrell said
"I'm Herman Boone, the new assistant coach" Boone said
"Well by the looks of things I believe we have all the help we need. Why aren't u out there with all your little friends hollering?"tyrell asks
Me Alan and Sheryl sit on chairs and watch the scene unfold
"This was the time that was arranged for me to meet with coach Yoast, I never miss an appointment" Mr.Boone said
"Well maybe you better reschedule" Tyrell snarked
"Coach Boone, the school bord made the decision to put u on my staff. I did not hire u" Yoast said back
"I came here to coach at G.W, I didn't ask the schools to redistrict and I didn't ask to be assigned to ur staff. So I guess we're both in a situation we don't wanna be in" Boone said "but I can guarantee you this coach... I come to win" he finished
After a while of arguing we all left and I went to the cheer team
"Hey" I say to Penelope "hey how are u?" She asked
"I'm good, apparently there's a new coach joining my brothers football team" I say
The next day...
Me, Gerry and Alan all sat at the same table waiting to hear what Yoast has to say
"It's been a rare privilege coaching ur boys but...I'll be taking the year off..." he said as everyone grands and some 'boos' appear from the back
"I say boycott T.C Williams!" Fred Bosley said making us all look his way
'Tell em fred' a man said
"Our boys aren't playing for some 'coach coon'!" Alan sits back in his chair listening to opinions around the room
Gerry gets up "coach. He stole your job.I'm not playing for him, I started a petition and I'm sitting this season out"he said
"The only place your going to sit is right back in that chair, Gerry. I appreciate it though." Yoast pats his back but Gerry doesn't sit down
"Boycott T.C" "boycott the school" we heard Fred scream getting up from his chair
"Stop this Fred. You know none of these boys can afford to go to some other district just to play ball. They sit this one out they put their futures on the line" Yoast lectured Fred
Ray stood up "coach, I'm out too.I ain't playing for no thief"He said "don't do this. Don't make this any harder for me than it already is" Yoast said. Alan looked at me and we both stood up "coach if u go I go" Alan said, "yea coach your like a farther to us" I said as the whole of the team said 'yea coach' and they all started clapping for him
