When they finally made it home, Nevie went to head down to the Girls' Floor, but Steve stopped her, "I don't think so, Geneva. Get back here and pop a squat."
"'Pop a squat?'" Cori giggled, bewildered at the phrase.
"I'm all sweaty," Nevie complained, "Can't I at least shower? I'll still be in trouble when I get out."
"Nope," Steve shook his head and sat down on the ottoman, facing the sofa. "Figured that this way you wouldn't have to get in trouble in front of the whole family."
Nevie sat down in front of him, her shoulders slumped. Her sister, on the other hand, was positively peppy as she took a seat beside her, ready to be the first one with the gossip. Bucky tapped her on the shoulder and gestured for the lower level of the house.
"This doesn't concern you, Cordelia Cecilia," Bucky said, rounding the sofa so he could sit beside Steve.
"Actually," Nevie spoke up just as Cori stood. She paused and Nevie softly admitted, "It kinda does involve her. Just, uh... distantly."
Cori's manicured brows furrowed, "How?"
"We'd like to know that too," Bucky decided.
Nevie fidgeted with Bitsy's lucky blue sequined scrunchie around her wrist. It was clear that she didn't want to say what she was about to say. Which was probably why she didn't want her sister to leave so she wouldn't have to say it all over again later.
Sighing, Nevie confessed, "He asked, 'are you a slut like your sister?' And I kinda just... blew up..."
"What the hell," Cori's brows furrowed further as her lower lip quivered.
"Why would he ask that?" Steve asked, feeling his own anger grow.
Bucky's own fury burned on the other side of the bond, "Probably just wanted to get a rise out of you."
"Well, whatever the reason, I just... reacted." Nevie shrugged. "And I know that it was wrong to punch him, but I just got so angry! And I probably would've punched him if he said that about anyone, but especially my sister. It's just not okay to say about someone."
Steve couldn't help the small spark of pride that ignited in his heart. Sure, violence wasn't the answer, but the teen already knew that. She was levelheaded and logical, but who were they to fault her for sticking up for someone she loved?
Sniffling, Cori pulled her smaller sister in for a hug. Steve knew what it was like to be a young omega in an alpha world. It meant double standards and ruining of reputations. Especially in high school.
"Well," Steve cleared the emotion from his throat. Standing from his seat on the ottoman, he decided, "You're grounded. You... can't pick tonight's movie."
Both girls' brows furrowed, confused by the light sentence, all while their alpha father beamed up at his mate. Figuring that she had been punished enough by having to spend the rest of the last game of the season on the bench. After all, she'd have to go months before try-outs and practices, let alone another game.
"No more punching though," Bucky reprimanded.
"Not even if they really, really deserve it," Steve added, always wanting his kids to be better than him and who he had been.
"Exactly," Bucky agreed.
"That's right," Cori nodded, her smile growing, "You'll just have to learn how to punch them with your words."
Bucky rolled his eyes and Steve scrubbed his hand over his face while Nevie giggled. Seeing the two hug though seemed to be the best ending for tonight.
"We brought booze!" Rhodey announced while Oliver greeted in a sing-song, "Because we're getting married!"
Finn feigned exasperation, "They've been like this the entire time we were at the store."
Steve smiled and Bucky said, "They deserve to be like this!"
Playfully, Finn rolled his eyes and made his way into the living room. Plopping down on the sofa and making himself comfortable.
"Now can I go shower?" Nevie asked.
Steve pulled her in for a hug. Kissing her cheek, allowing, "You can shower now."
Hugging Cori next while Nevie hugged Bucky, the other couple joined them in the living room, looking for some love too. As soon as the younger men were hugging the teens, they pulled back and scrunched up their faces in disgust.
"Phew," Rhodey pinched his nose, "You are ripe."
Waving his hand in front of his face as if to fan the body odor away, Ollie teased, "You're gonna peel the wallpaper."
The girls rolled their eyes, but split so they could both take showers. Nevie heading for their once-upon-a-time ensuite and Cori for the Girls' Floor.
Turning to his son, Steve insisted, "Now let me get a good look at that ring!"
Ollie held his left hand out and let Steve take it in his so he could move it around. Rotating his hand to the side and then the other as they watched the light reflect off the gem. It really was a beautiful ring.
"It was my grandpa's," Rhodey informed, returning to the kitchen so he could open the bottle of champagne.
"It's lovely," Steve complimented. When his vision started to blur because of his tears, Steve smiled up at his son, causing the tears to flow. Wiping them away, Steve confirmed, "It's perfect."
"So, have you two decided on a date yet?" Bucky asked, plopping down on the sofa.
Oliver looked over at Rhodey when he handed him a glass of champagne and admitted, "We've only been engaged for two days."
Bucky chuckled at that, "You're telling me that you've never thought about it?"
"No," Oliver playfully rolled his eyes and sat down, "But I'm not sure which version I want."
Handing a glass to Steve, Rhodey asked his fiancé, "Which version?"
"You heard me," Oliver teased, cheeks reddening while Finn joked, "You still wanna marry him?"
Oliver rolled his eyes, took a drink of the bubbly alcohol, and clarified, "I mean, do we want a spring wedding? Summer? What theme? Colors? It's a lot to think about."
"Then, tonight we should just celebrate because," Steve decided. Holding up his glass, he toasted, "It's about damn time!"
"Hell yeah!" Bucky agreed, raising his own glass and leaning over to kiss Steve's temple, "It's about damn time!"
When Finn was handed his glass, he echoed the toast as did the happily engaged couple. All in all, Steve couldn't help but adore his children. He and his mate had done all they could to raise them right, and he was glad to see that they had turned out better people than either of them could've hoped for.
