The match had begun and the crowd 'oohed' and 'ahhed' as the players flew around the stadium, Darcy was betting on Bulgaria winning the competition but she wasn't about to let the twins know, so she waved her Ireland flag all the same.
In the middle of the match, something caught her eye, it was only a second of movement and a piece of fabric appeared right next to Mr Crouch's house elf. Crouch Senior had still not shown up to the match even though it was almost finished. Darcy watched the house elf for a few minutes before she stood from her seat and dashed out of the box, it looked rather like she was chasing something than running away from the dangerous heights of the box. Darcy knew she had to follow and see what the house elf was up to. What if the house elf knows about Barty Crouch Jr? Does she know he escaped? She stood up and squeezed herself along the row, answering Tonk's questioning look by mouthing 'bathroom' to her. Once she was back on the stairs she saw the house elf tearing down them, two at a time. Darcy ran after her, wand held out.
The house elf reached the bottom of the stairs and sprinted away through the tents and into the darkening night. Darcy lost sight of her, still running through the tents. It was getting harder to see in the dim light. Suddenly Darcy collided with something solid and invisible. An invisibility cloak appeared to fall on the group out of nowhere and it revealed someone she thought she wouldn't encounter again. Bartemius Crouch Jr.
"What are you doing here?" She gasped out. She lowered her wand, she wasn't entirely sure whether he wanted her dead or not, but considering he hadn't killed her last time, she assumed she was safe.
"Taking a midnight stroll, what do you think?" He asked her a smirk on his face. "Enjoy the match did you?" He asked as if they weren't in the dark surrounded by people who would want to catch him if they saw him. Suddenly, the pieces in Darcy's mind fit together, it had been Bartemius that the house elf had been holding onto in the top box, it was he that she was chasing.
"You were there?" She asked, he nodded. "So your father helped you escape?"He chuckled, "Oh no, my father would never do anything for me." He said bitterly but suddenly Bartemius' eyes came alight. "Right, I'm going to need your wand," he said in an off-handed way. She shook her head, drawing it closer to her.
"You won't have time to kill me, ministry wizards will be here in a minute, they have to be."
"I don't want to kill you." He said with an exasperated laugh. "I want to cast the sign."
"The sign?" Darcy asked, pretending she had no idea what he was talking about.
"You know exactly what I mean." He growled, advancing.
"I'll scream." She warned. "Imagine what I'd get for catching you, probably made an auror." He held up his hands.
"Alright, alright." He said. "You cast the spell then."
"Why?"
"Do you know how many deatheaters are here tonight?" He asked her, gesturing back to the stadium. "How many deatheaters that never came to look for the dark lord, who were happy to slot themselves back into the ministry, like nothing ever happened?"
"You want to punish them?" Darcy asked.
"Of course I do, wouldn't you?" He asked her. "I've suffered enough, I think they should too."
"I know you did." She said, referring to his time in Azkaban but really? Using the sign? It won't bring him back to life. I'm not going to help you." She said quietly. "I think you know that."
