"C'mon, Epona," I hopelessly mumbled. "We've checked everywhere. She really is gone."

Epona sadly let out a neigh, as if she could actually understand the words I was speaking. I hope she can. She's the only friend I've got—at least right now.

I sat back on her saddle and pet her mane. Glancing around my surroundings, I could barely see anything. Just trees. Dark, lonely, depressing trees.

It's almost like I could relate to them.

I let out a sigh and whipped Epona's bridle, and she quickly dashed forward. I'm glad we were still together after everything. Unlike Navi and I. I tried not to cry whilst reminiscing my memories of my beloved fairy. But, even if I wanted to, I couldn't cry. There were no more tears left.

"I'll always protect you, Epona. I'll never let you leave."

Hours later, I started to see shorter, lighter, and more childish trees come into view. The dark shade turned into a bright, yellowish sky, and it smelt like pine, smelt like childhood.

Kokiri Forest.

I felt a breeze of relief rush through me—but it was quickly overcome by the same sadness and frustration I'd felt throughout my journey. I was right back in the beginning. After everything, I get nothing. She was really gone. Dead. Or maybe lost. Whatever happened to her, she was gone.

I pet Epona again and hopped off her bronze saddle, my eyes still up, glancing at the blonde sky. Clouds swirled across it, but the sun was out of view, hidden. I reached into my pocket and grabbed out a small carrot, which Epona gladly bit out of my hand.

"We're home, girl. Hyrule," I said. The words sounded empty—nothing felt like home anymore, not without Navi. I was alone.

...At least Saria's still my friend.
