Since the party, I kept myself busy. I went into Fiona's early both Monday and Tuesday to help make and promote the new products. By the time my shifts were over both days, I was exhausted, going home and passing out in my room.
It was nice to actually be able to sleep.
It had been so long.
Wednesday, Amrit and I worked on promo for Murphy's Bistro. She was so talented, it was unnatural. I appreciated working with her because she'd been teaching me a lot.
Thursday, I noticed a calendar invite come through for a lunch meeting off site. I didn't think much of it. Only slightly nervous to be going somewhere by myself meeting someone named Kina Hidalgo.
We met at the deli down the street.
Kina sat, smiling at me as I walked in. She stood up and shook my hand, "I've heard so much about you! It's great to finally meet you."
We sat down. I was so confused, but didn't let on, keeping a smile on my face.
"It's great to meet you too."
I settled into my seat.
We ordered coffees and then I cleared my throat awkwardly, "So what can I do for you?" I asked, trying to figure out who she was, what project this was, and why we were here and not at the office.
"Oh," Kina laughed, her dark eyes dancing, "did Finn not tell you...?"
"Tell me what?"
Kina rolled her eyes, "Um...I'm a clinical therapist."
My heart dropped. "A what now?"
Kina crossed her hands in front of her carefully, "Finn Murphy scheduled me some time with you. I apologize now. It appears you weren't made aware."
I gritted my teeth down, feeling a thunderous rage storm through me.
Who the fuck did he think he was?
"Finn..." I repeated.
Kina cocked her head, a look of sympathy on her face, "I really apologize. The session is paid for, but I can leave if you're uncomfortable."
"No," I said without thinking, laughing bitterly, "who does he think he is?" I asked out loud. Kina leaned back, listening. "You don't have to leave," I added.
"He made it sound like you...knew. I'm so sorry."
"It's okay," I said, sipping my coffee furiously. "I just...wait," I blinked, "are you his therapist too?"
She opened her mouth, then thought for a flicker and stopped, "I'm not allowed to discuss other patients."
Other patients.
I had my answer.
Finn Murphy. In therapy?
My mind was blown.
And how many people knew THAT tidbit?
I drummed my fingers on the table.
"Well, while we're here..." she started, "we can talk, if you want."
I let out a shaky breath, "I don't really know what to say."
"Start from the beginning," Kina sipped her coffee carefully, "what's your story."
