Communication is key. That’s what they always say isn’t it? Unfortunately, you and Hobi didn’t communicate that well. More specifically you both found it hard to talk about feelings, emotions, whatever’s bothering either of you, to each other. Your relationship was relatively new so you still had trouble opening up to each other. But it was unhealthy.
Recently, you had both been stressed but had refused to talk it out. Whether it was because you didn’t want to burden the other with your problems or because you felt too scared to talk about stuff that bothered you, you weren’t sure yourself.
But that’s why you got in the state you were in now. You and Hobi were a floor apart, needing the distance to cool down. You had got into a pretty heated argument. This week had been stressful for the both of you but you refused to let it show. However, you started to feel the tension and stress eat at you from the inside, and you knew you had to talk it out with someone, and that someone was Hoseok. But he was down and stressed too, so what you hoped would be a stress relieving conversation for the both of you ended up with you shouting at each other, using the other’s insecurities to get back at what they said. Of course you realised afterwards how wrong it was to have said all those things, Hobi did too.
But sitting in your bedroom, letting the anger subside while tears slowly roll down your face, contemplating everything, made you slightly afraid to own up and apologise. You stood up and paced around the room slowly, deeply breathing in and out, you had to face, you had to face him sooner or later. You made your way out and headed downstairs, still feeling hesitant. The closer you got to the edge of the stairs, you heard the sound of sniffles getting louder.
Gosh, you made him cry, you felt so guilty.
Your eyes started to burn with tears slowly roll down again as you rounded the corner to see Hobi sitting on the floor hugging his knees, his back against the sofa. You watched silently as he kept wiping away his tears with the back of his palm, new ones quickly appearing. You moved closer to him, which made him snap his head up.
"Y—y/n, I’m sorry," he said frantically as you sat beside him.
"I’m sorry too," you said as you wrapped your arms around him pulling him closer to your chest.
You felt him resist a little which left you confused. He looked up into your eyes wanting to speak again.
"Y/n, I really shouldn’t—"
You cut him off as he struggled to speak through his sobs.
"Shh," you hushed him softly, even though you were on the verge of tears yourself. "Just let it out, I will too."
He felt the comfort and sincerity in your voice, it somehow made him feel confident enough to show his emotions to you. So he did as you said.
This, for the both of you, was what was needed. A time to show each other that you could be vulnerable and emotional at times. But also a time to show that you would be there for each other, to not be ashamed of being completely human.
You both sat there huddled into each other, crying until you both calm down. Sitting up a little, you wiped Hobi’s wet cheeks with the sleeves of your jumper, and he did the same to you, making you smile.
"Let’s agree never to keep things to ourselves again," you said with a giggle.
Hobi giggled too and nodded in agreement, looking at the floor in slight embarrassment.
"Hey," you whispered, guiding your finger to his chin, bringing his face up. "I don’t want either of us to be afraid to talk about what is bothering us any more, ok?"
He nods his head and fiddles with his sweater paws. "I know, I’ve been really stressed recently." You say the same while he pauses, seemingly hesitant in what he wanted to say next. "Will you stay by my side?" His voice was quieter.
"Of course, will you stay by mine?"
"Do you even have to ask?" he sounded more confident.
You wrapped your arms around each other again as you squeeze your eyes shut and whisper in his ear,
"Let’s never fight like that again, it was horrible."
He hummed in response and nuzzled further into the safety of your embrace.
