"Becoming the greatest version of yourself requires the desire for a better life. But in order to start that transition, one has to go through a series of pain and suffering."

-Queen Klarity

I stumbled into my house with my stilettos in one hand and my car keys in the other. I was barely coherent but I was smart enough to drive home from the club, park in the garage, and take my keys with me. That muthafuckin' girl. The door closed behind me as I tip toed up the steps and into my room without a sound, or so I thought. As soon as I laid my drunk ass down, my aunt opened my door with a look of annoyance.

"Meilan, it's 4 in the morning. Or do you really not give a fuck?" The woman asked me. Even though I was twenty one, my aunt stayed on top of me for everything. Anytime past one in the morning was too late for her, but I wasn't thinking about that before I came back home. I whined into the pillow. I was off casa-freak-hoes and henny, plus my best friend rolled a fat L before and after we got to the function- a bitch head was spinning. "I didn't see the time."

"I'm really getting tired of you. You need to hurry up and get the fuck out before I put you the fuck out." The woman warned me before slamming the door. I rolled my eyes and threw my shoes in the corner before stripping out of my little black dress and wiping off my makeup. At this point, I was numb to her threats and even her punches. After years of dealing with my aunt, I've mastered how to block her out. I literally just paid all her bills after she was fired from her job, and I made sure she had money in her pocket too- so her drunk ass wasn't on nothing for real. She just loved to talk.

My long black locks were touching my backside as I walked over to my dresser to find my big pink bonnet. I picked up my small pink lighter and lit the small roach I had sitting on my vanity, walking over to my large double windows to finish it. My pink plush chair that sat by the sill was calling my name as I pushed my small frame down into in. Textbooks that I was studying from last night were still out, reminding me that I had a quiz to take in my first class. I put my head in my hands, realizing I hadn't finished the painting that was due for my second one. I stared over at the half painted portrait of myself, then disregarded it again. I'll finish that later.

I just started school again after taking a break and this was my Junior year at Kallamore School of Arts- my year of redemption. The grace of God had allowed me to pass my classes for the last two years, but I was currently on academic probation. The only reason I was still a student was because my father worked as an art instructor at Kallamore for about fifteen years before he passed away, and Professor Baudet was well known and well loved. The dean of students, Dean Smith, was like an uncle to me- but it didn't mean he wouldn't kick my black ass out if I didn't get it together (to put it in his words). I quickly pulled my notes up from my laptop and got to studying immediately while gathering my supplies to finish my portrait. I knew exactly what needed to be done and how, I was just praying that I was done on time. I damn near sobered up thinking about missing another assignment.

As soon as I finished my portrait, my seven-fifteen alarm went off, indicating that it was time for me to get ready. I dragged myself up out of my chair and went into my closet to pick out my outfit for the day. As hot as it was in Philly, I barely wanted to wear anything, but I spotted a short yellow sundress that came a little above my knees. I pulled it out along with some diamond encrusted sandals and a rainbow colored mini Chanel purse to match. My eyes were low as hell but it didn't matter how sleepy I was. I needed to get my ass to school and out of this house.

Nonetheless, I sprayed on some perfume, grabbed my bookbag and freshly dried portrait, and flew down the stairs to grab a quick breakfast bar. I looked around the black, grey, and white lush living room to see that my my twin cousins, Desiree and Delene, were gone for the day and didn't bother to ask me to take them to school. I instantly pulled out my special pack of weed and a wood, and started rolling up to start my day off right. I quickly went down the basement and out to my car so I could pick up my best friend and go to school. I was surprised the bitch wasn't blowing me up, but I knew she was fucked up from the function last night too. Her ass took back at least twenty shots of casa-freak-hoes before we turnt up for real.
