"Doesn't matter~~. Nah, doesn't sound right."

A young producer hummed to his currently work in progress song as he tried to make it sound at least in melody. Comfortable in a warm room in the midst of a cold winter, Y/n had been commissioned to co-produced with other producers for the newly joined Pledis girl group - Fromis_9. While his producer name (Harry) is spread across multiple fanbases due to his proficiency in hip hop music, it was unusual to join in the production of Fromis_9's new song.

Well, that was because one of the member had a relationship with him, and she was the reason he wanted to venture out to different music genres. He wanted to make it a surprise to her since he had been silent about this project from the start.

However, stepping outside of the comfort zone after 7 years of embracing the hip hop gene was easier talk than done.

"Yoo, Y/n!" A certain figure was hanging around by the door. "Burning the midnight oil again?"

Y/n turned around to see the main guy he had been working with, Zico. "Oh, Z! Waddup?"

"I'm feeling tired, as you can see from my magnificent face."

"What the heck?" Y/n crackled.

Throughout Y/n's producing career, he had been hopping around with other hip hop artist, hoping to find one that can embrace his music and become the song. Zico was the answer to Y/n's dilemma, and both of them had been working together for the past 7 years. Zico valued Y/n as both a producer who made exceptional music and as a friend also who gave good advice to him when Zico needed it (both during his Block-B days and now his soloist days). The same level of respect was also the same from Y/n to Zico as the latter stayed true to himself and very chill to work with.

Eventually, they were close enough to bickering and joking around like that.

"Anyway, what are you working on?" Zico peeked at the screen, scanning around to see the name of the file. "DM?"

"Yea, for Fromis_9"

"Oh yeaaa, your first attempt at a new genre." Zico exclaimed.

"Technically, it's still EDM." Y/n truthfully stated. "But it's female voice instead of the elderly voice like yours."

"Oi, my voice drips more than honey, Y/n." Zico retorted. Y/n could only sighed at the lame metaphor. "Anyway, is it only the melody?"

"Well, yea? They already heard the sample I sent out so I just improve on the sample the group chose."

"Ahh, lemme hear it, dawg." Zico asked before Y/n pressed the space bar.

As the melody could only described as a pop song with "faint chord progression and funky bassline", Zico was rather impressed how Y/n managed to make a pop song sounded chill yet very vibrant and energetic.

"So....whatcha think?" Y/n asked. His voice filled with curiosity.

"Dang, you lied to me about being absolutely terrible at anything not hip hop. This is beautiful, man!"

"Hehe, thank you. Hearing that from you means a lot." Y/n scratched his head shyly.

"Well, I'm flattered." Zico bowed lightly as a thank you. "It is also a cue for you to go home and rest already when it's this good."
