Marie's POV:

I excused myself from the table and walked outside. I quickly answered the unidentified number that was calling me.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Marie?" I heard a dry voice say through the other end.

"Who is this?" I asked.

"Marie, it's your mother." she said.

I paused, almost dropping my phone. I hadn't heard from her or seen her since I went back to get my stuff 6 years ago. Why would she even attempt to try and talk to me. Six years. That's a long time. Hate and anger built up in me. It took me a while before I spoke.

"Uhmm. Hi." I said, still shocked. How'd she even get my number?

"You're probably wondering how I have your phone number. Well I had to beg Maylynne and she finally gave up and gave it to me. We still stay in touch." She said, her voice was dull. Like she wasn't even interested in this... conversation. I couldn't believe after how she treated us, Maylynne would still keep in touch with her. I'll be damned if she thinks she's going to have a relationship with me!

"Oh okay. Can I help you?" I asked. My tone had anger in it, but I tried to sound like I didn't care.

"No. I just needed to know how you were doing. So, how are you?" My mother began saying like we had been in touch and talked everyday. I didn't really want to talk to her. I was still hurt.

"I... how are you?" I said, trying to change the subject. Even though I didn't want to talk to her or care about how she was doing.

"Oh, I am fine. I would love to see you. I'll give you my address and maybe you can come up and see me." She said. Come up and see her? I don't even want to be on the phone with her. Why does she even want to see me, when she didn't do a thing to stop me from leaving, even when I came back? She even helped me pack before I even got back?! "Marie? Please, give me another chance I am sorry for screwing up. I miss you." She said, sounding like she was crying.

"Good bye." I said, hanging up the phone.

I walked back into the restaurant and sat back down at my seat. Everyone looked at me and fell silent.

"Did the waiter come back to take our order?" I asked.

"No, oh but here he comes." Mrs. Chance said.

"Who was that?" Thomas asked, whispering into my ear.

"We'll talk about it later." I whispered back. He smiled and took my hand. He could probably tell something was strange. I was still in shock. I couldn't even believe it.

We all had our orders taken and talked. When it was time to leave everyone said goodbye to Ann, even me.

Thomas's POV:

Marie and I got into bed and laid in the dark silence for a while. I was still thinking about who called her. I remembered how shaken she looked when she came back. I wondered what they had to say.

"Marie are you going to tell me who that was on the phone?" I asked.

"It was my mother." She said, sounding a little shaken.

"You're mother? Seriously? What did she have to say?" I asked, catching the anger in my voice.

"She wants to know how I am doing and if I'll come see her." Marie said.

"Are you going to?" I asked.

"I'm considering it." She said, and honestly I was shocked that she was.
