Chapter Nine: Where The Heart Is

Marie's POV:

"Honey could you please grab that?" Mrs. Chance asked me.

"Yeah sure." I said. She still doesn't know I'm pregnant yet. I'm not showing at all. But I was never really small and skinny before I was pregnant in the first place so it doesn't worry me.

I guess I get it from Maria. She didn't show with me until 7 months. Right now I'm about a month pregnant. In my spare time, before Zac's wedding, I would come help Mrs. Chance with my wedding things. So we are almost done. It will be a big surprise to Thomas tonight.

"Thanks." Mrs. Chance said, kindly. She is the sweetest. Unless you get on her bad side. "So, how are you doing?" She asked me.

"I'm doing great. Especially lately." I told her, smiling.

"How's Thomas? Busy?" She asked.

"Oh, yeah a little." I said. It made me think of how busy he actually really has been. Coming home late almost every night. Since work has been very busy from the war that's apparently going on in Africa Thomas has to prepare lots of filling. Then he still goes to Johns to try and help out as much as possible. He knows how hard Megan's been doing lately.

She was in a car accident and it's been stressing out John to the max. Laura has just been a mess. She's really been missing her mom since she is bed resting now and can't really see her. I mean it's so sweet that Thomas wants to help John but he also needs to think about his family too.

"Have you found a job yet?" She asked me.

"Oh, yes I have an interview in two days." I told her.

"Oh that's great!" She said, excitedly.

"Yeah. Haha." I said, kind of sarcastically laughing. Only because Mrs. Chance is always so happy about everything.

Later that night Thomas met me at his mothers. We were all in the living room, Ann, Mr. and Mrs. Chance, and me. Mrs. Chance was taking us all to dinner so we could surprise Thomas. Then I could surprise Thomas's family. I'm sure Mrs. Chance will be most excited. When we all got to the restaurant I thought we'd have to wait but Mr. Chance made reservations. I felt so fancy.

We sat down and Mr. Chance ordered us a bottle of wine. I asked for a water too. We were all talking about Ann and how college was going. She said same as always. Then Mrs. Chance and I looked at each other.

"Thomas, I have to tell you something." I told him. He looked at me slightly confused. "Your mom and I have been preparing for our wedding. As like a surprise for you since you've been so busy lately." I told him. He looked at me then his mother.

"Wow. Are y'all finished?" He asked.

"Yes. We just finished today." I said, smiling.

"That's great. Thanks!" He said, I could tell he was a little upset but he probably understands. "Yeah... so mom, dad, Ann... I think Marie and I have something to tell you too." He said. I smiled, nodded my head for him to go on, so he did.

"Yes?" Mrs. Chance asked.

"Marie's pregnant." He said, smiling.

"Really?" She asked. "Since when?"

"It's been around a month now." I told her.

"Wow. You aren't even showing!" She said excitedly but quietly too because she didn't want anyone to hear what we were talking about.

"Well, congratulations Marie and Thomas." Ann said.

"Thank you, Ann." I said. She smiled at me, but at first I thought I saw it as sarcasm. Then again I wasn't sure.
