CHAPTER ONE ! pilot season one / episode one

Dominic had to admit, even though the kids from the cut were poor, they threw some damn good parties. Most of the kids from the cut threw their parties at the boneyard, which is where Dominic was now. He was trailing behind Sarah and Topper, who were stopped by JJ. Dominic knew who JJ was, quite well actually. JJ mowed his lawn for extra cash. Dominic wouldn't consider JJ a friend, but they would occasionally smoke weed together and just talk. JJ didn't understand why Dominic was friends with someone like Rafe.
"Dominic, can I interest you in a tasty Milwaukee beverage?" JJ questioned, holding out a red solo cup.
"No, thank you." Dominic offered a smile.
"What about you, Sarah?" JJ asked, offering the solo cup to her.
"No, thanks." Sarah spoke, her and topper attempting to walk around JJ.
"Is it not fancy enough for you?" JJ aimed the question at Sarah, he knew Dominic enough to know that he wasn't a heavy drinker.
"No. We were just leaving." Sarah told him.
"Hey, you know what? I'll take it. I'll-- thank you, man. I appreciate it." Topper inserted himself into the conversation.
"That's nice, but I didn't ask you." JJ told him. "Now, if you said pretty please, maybe, but you didn't."
"Oh, pretty please." Topper spoke sarcastically.
"Ok, guys, just stop. I'll take the drink." Dominic reached out for it but JJ pulled it away. "Seriously JJ, just give me the drink. It's not worth--" Dominic was cut off when JJ went to hand him the drink and Topper slapped it out of JJ's hand, getting it all over JJ.
"They don't want it, you--" Topper spoke but was cut off by Sarah and Dominic.
"Okay." Sarah spoke, trying to get Topper to leave it alone.
"Guys, that's enough." Dominic said.
JJ pushed Topper, and Dominic pushed himself in between the two and started pushing JJ back. "No, no, no, we are not doing this." Once Dominic thought JJ was calmed down enough to control himself he went back over to his friends. "Let's just leave guys, this is so unneccassary."
They started to leave but Topper turned. "Dirty pogues!"
John B turned around, shoving Topper into Dominic, who tried to step in between them. "Topper let's just go."
Topper pushed Dominic out of the way, Dominic falling into a black boy who he had somehow never met before, he knew he was a pogue, because he was friend's with JJ, but he didn't even know who the boy was. "Sorry." Dominic apologized, offering an awkward smile as he pushed away from the boy. His smile fell as Topper punched John B so hard the boy fell back into the water.
"Hey, John B, don't make me drown you like your old man, all right?" Dominic heard Topper say to John B.
"Topper, that's fuck--" Dominic was cut off as John B tackled Topper, and they began fighting. The only people yelling at them to stop being the black boy, Kiara, Sarah, and Dominic. But the fight ended as Topper got John B into the water and began to hold him under.
JJ looked at Dominic, and the two shared a look. JJ knew Dominic would probably never speak to him again and possibly fire him after his next move, but he couldn't let his new friends other friend drown his best friend. Dominic watched as JJ grabbed something from his back before he was pressing it to the back of Topper's head. And when Dominic heard the safety click he knew it was a gun.
"Yeah, you know what that is." JJ spoke, Topper letting go of John B almost immediately. "Your move, broski."
"JJ!" Dominic exclaimed. Everyone began to run away, and Dominic couldn't blame them.
"Put the gun down!" Sarah yelled. "Kie can you check your psycho friend please!"
JJ let Topper go, turning to the people that had already began to scatter. "Okay, everyone, listen up! Get the hell off our side of the island!" He raised the pistol, firing it twice into the air making Dominic flinch. Kiara and the other boy started yelling at JJ, and Dominic watched as John B fell back into the water.
"Hey! Guys!" Dominic shouted at the three friends, motioning to John B who was in the water, unmoving.
