"CHASE! You're going to be late for the meeting!"

My father's voice echoed through the mind link. I sighed, quickening my strides and heading towards the huge study where the pack meeting was going to be held. It was time for the Alpha position to officially be passed down to me. Now that I've graduated high school, the position is mine.

The beta position will be passed down to my best friend, Tucker, who's the older Beta's son. Tucker's father is Eric. He's been Beta since I was eleven years old.

I made it to the meeting room and when I opened the door the room got deathly quiet.

"What. What happened," I made sure to keep my tone low. My father looked up from my red-faced mother with a hard stare.

"I feel we need to postpone the positions ceremony, Chase."

"Why? What happened," I repeated. My mother sniffled, reaching out for my father's hand.

"Ch-Chase, you reme-member Bailey r-right?" My mother struggled through gasps to control her words. Bailey...Bailey Decklin?

"Yeah, what about her?" I asked with slight confusion. I haven't seen Bailey since her father passed away eight years ago.

"She w-was on her-her way here a-and her car...s-he cra-crashed."

My heart stopped beating. I couldn't breathe. What? Bailey and I were like two peas in a pod-the perfect two!

"Is she alive?" I asked in a whisper. My mother nodded solemnly.

"She's in the hospital. Her mother had called saying she was on her way here when a-a- a driver fell asleep at the wheel and hit her Taurus! Oh poor Bailey!" My mother wept into my father's left arm while he said nothing but looked down at her with a grim expression. My father is a proud man. He doesn't show weakness. Me on the other hand; I had rushed from the meeting room and outside to my Ford Raptor and sped off to the hospital. Even my wolf was howling mad. Oh my dear Bailey, how much I've waited to see how you've grown.

Even though you need to see your mate to know its them, I could've sworn I heard my wolf whisper, 'mate.'
