Reece swiftly moved around the library's front counter, sliding his hand along the wood. His enthusiasm made me smile. When he looked back at me with his handsome toothy grin, my cheeks burned.

He cupped one hand over his mouth as he stepped out into the library's open space, motioning me to follow him with the other. He called out to the counter in the back, "Hey Dolores, I'm going upstairs with the desks. Can you watch the front for me?"

An older woman peeked her head over a desktop computer. She adjusted her red-frame glasses, lifted her brows, and scanned the floor. When she stood, I saw how short she was, maybe five feet or so, like me. Her floral cardigan was cute, too.

As her gaze settled on Reece, she smiled, fixed her sleeves, and walked toward us. "Go ahead," she said as she got closer. "Things won't pick up for another few hours," she shrugged, "I'll just make some coffee and relax."

Still grinning, Reece pressed his hands together. "I owe you one," he said. "I'll buy you something with caramel later. Good coffee."

Small wrinkles formed on the corners of her eyes as she chuckled softly. "You're a sweet kid, but don't worry about it. Give me a rain check, hm?"

Dolores smiled at me with a small nod as she made her way over to the counter. She fixed Reece's bomber on the chair.

Reece nodded as he excitedly gestured for me to walk to the stairs. He looked back at Dolores. "Thanks!" he said to her.

His kindness radiated in the library, too, huh? Was he so naturally sweet? Even Dolores said it—he was a sweet kid. Yet, as I waited for him to lead the way and followed him up the stairs, I didn't see a kid. I saw the broad shoulders of a man. There was something in the way he walked, strong, powerful. If I were to compare him to anything, especially in this library, it would be an alpha; giving off a presence meant to be respected. Adding to his kindness, I mentally nicknamed him a gentle king.

He looked back at me as we reached the second floor. His smile made my heart race. "No one's at the computers yet. We'll sit first and brainstorm."

Looking at his face, every part of me burned. He was a kind, gentle, beautiful king.

I looked up into his eyes and took a deep breath. "I can brainstorm," I said quietly.

Reece cocked a brow before chuckling. He pressed his tongue into his cheek, too. That was it. It was obvious that I thought he was attractive, and he knew it. If he didn't notice yesterday, he for sure knew it today.

"Come on." Reece reached into his back pocket for his phone as he turned right off the stairs. I watched as he lowered the volume, silencing it. Once he pocketed it again, he looked at me. "I highly recommend either turning your phone down or off while we do this."

I adjusted my bag's strap on my shoulder as I kept up with him. I reached for my phone, lowering the volume. "Oh, right. We're in a library."

Reece laughed as he peered at me with his dark auburn eyes. "Well yeah, that, and if you're going to be working on this book, you need to be able to focus."

Oh, right. Durr.

I nodded then cupped my hands in front of me. I twiddled my thumbs—a little distraction to keep me from gawking at him.

Reece led me to an area with desks and tables in the middle. Only one man sat in the corner of the room. He had his hand pushed into his black curly hair. He tapped his pen against a notebook. I thought I heard grumbling and mumbling, but before I could try to figure it out, Reece stopped at a table and pulled out a chair for me.
