Chapter 1: We May Not Be Destined For Each Other, But We Will Still Be Family
There was an engagement party going on in the banquet hall of Hotel SY, yet it was decorated as if a grand wedding was going on. There were a red carpet and an emcee who had just introduced the future bride and groom. He was singing praises to their love, giving a moving speech that had everyone in tears.
Lalisa Manobal looked on as the pair walked down the stage. The handsome man and beautiful woman were a fine-looking pair standing together.
"Haha, President Manobal, you have such good fortune to have an outstanding son-in-law, he and Seulgi are indeed a pair match made in heaven," a guest laughed as he toasted.
Seokjin Manobal was happy but tried to sound humble.
Lisa could hardly hear those flattering words, her eyes were watching the groom-to-be, Cheng Jimin, tauntingly. Standing next to him was Seulgi, who was blushing and smiling coquettishly. Jimin was gentlemanly and magnanimous, looking down at Seulgi with love. His sight swept past Lisa unintentionally and he gave a pause.
After all the guests had finished their toast, Seokjin led Jimin and Seulgi to each table, toasting their guests in turn. Madam Manobal, whose name was Su Jihyo, suddenly said coldly, "Lalisa, accompany me to the restroom."
Lisa swallowed whatever sarcasm she was prepared to dish out and stood up silently. Jihyo was already walking in front of her.
With one behind the other, they left the banquet hall. No one had noticed a man in a trim suit behind them. When they walked past him, he paused on the spot. He was a good-looking man who locked his eyes on Lisa.
"Master Jeon? The guests are waiting in the room," Zuo Eunwoo reminded him uncertainly.
"You can go over first," a pleasant, low rich voice replied casually. It was like a sudden wind that no one could capture in time and before he knew it, the man had walked towards the direction Lisa had headed.
...
Jihyo had made sure that there was no one in the restroom and locked the door before saying coldly, "This is Seulgi's engagement party, why are so obvious with that expression of yours? You can't wait for outsiders to figure out something is wrong?"
Lisa took a deep breath before answering quietly, "I didn't really need to be here today."
What was she doing here? To watch her boyfriend of four years suddenly get engaged to someone who was only her sister in name?
She was totally unaware of the relationship. Jimin was still dating her at the time. Even though they were seeing less of each other, she had always thought that he was busy with work. Jimin had always let her know how grateful he was that she could understand him.
They were chatting on the phone only one night before when he went to visit the Manobal family with Seulgi the next day. He had stood in front of her and the entire Manobal family to announce their engagement. The Manobal family were long aware of Jimin's existence and knew that he was dating Seulgi. While she was staying in the university's hostel, Jimin had already visited the Manobal family multiple times as Seulgi's boyfriend.
All Jimin gave her was this sentence, "Lisa, love is something that is hard to explain. We may not be destined for each other, but we will still be family."
Jihyo narrowed her eyes and her tone turned ruder than before. "What would people think if you don't attend this party? They would think we are treating the adopted daughter poorly by not allowing you here. Lalisa, you should be grateful to our family for bringing you up. I know you like Jimin but he is now Seulgi's fiancée. You should stop your wishful thinking. It is important to know one's limitations and understand where you stand, don't fight with Seulgi for everything."DO NOT VOTE
