The bell that signaled the end of lunch rang. I tried to sneakily shove the last piece of food into my mouth. Crumbs fell all over my shirt, and I quickly brushed them off. I swallowed the remaining piece and hoped no one saw me act "unladylike".
"So what class are you going to?" I gazed up at him curiously, hoping that we could maybe even walk back together. It's been awhile since I've ever had someone to walk with, let alone talk to without holding back. I watched his dark hair ruffle in the wind and I almost fell into a trance. His eyes turned a hazel green, a color I could finally make out.
"Why is he so hot," a badly-imitated girl voice spoke.
I snapped out of my daydream and saw Chad snickering uncontrollably at me. My cheeks turned a scarlet red and I looked down at my feet. "That was NOT what I was thinking!" I tried desperately to convince him.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," he sarcastically said, "I wouldn't have said that if you were listening to me the first time, you know? Besides, you were staring at me so intently I couldn't help it. Your eyes were practically bulging!" An awkward silence passed and he repeated, apparently, "I'm going to theatre. You?"
"What!? You're already in theatre? How did you get in? Did you bribe them?" Well, half of that was just over-exaggerated, but still.
"Hey, I am not that terrible of an actor," he pouted, "And yeah, aren't you in theatre, too, but just in a different block? You also didn't answer my question, Ella." Now it was his turn to stare at me intently.
"Nah, I'm in my stupid English class right now. It's so boring... You're so lucky you're in theatre! I don't have it at all in my schedule this year." I sighed, suddenly overly jealous of Chad. He put his hand on my shoulder and leaned his head down to look me in the eye, and he leaned a lot, considering our large height difference. His face was so close to mine, like he was sucking all of my breathing air away. I shifted slightly back, trying to hide my tomato face.
"Well, I bet when the play tryouts come, they're going to beg you to join my class! Speaking of the tryouts... You want to practice after school together?" His eyes sparkled like a little kids.
"Of course! I need all the help I can get! We have to stop by the classroom first to get the copies of the script, though, right?"
"Yeah, but I can pick one up for you. I just hope they won't think I'm weird when I pick up Cinderella's script." He winked at me, and my heart fluttered.
Why?
The tardy bell rang, and I suddenly realized we were only standing in front of Chad's classroom, while mine was on the other side of the hallway. "Oh my gosh, Chad! You made me late! My teacher's going to kill me! Ugh, I'll see you after school!" I bounded down the hallway, my heart beating at 300mph and my the butterflies in my stomach mutating into dragons.
School Ends~
I practically crawled out of my last class, experiencing that same "I have no reason to be excited in this place" feeling. My mind wandered back to the conversation at lunch and I remembered, I'm supposed to meet Chad! I ran to the theatre room, and sure enough, I saw his silhouette in front of the teacher's desk. I creeped over to where he was, and shyly stood behind him. I just realized, this was my FIRST time EVER being in the theatre room.
I heard Chad tell the teacher, "Thank you very much, ma'am. I'll give it to her when I see her." I heard the teacher laugh, and she asked, "Is that girl your friend standing behind you, Chad?" He half-turned to face me, and he turned a faint pink, "Ella! Were you here this whole time?"
I timidly nodded, unsure of how to act in front of the director. "Ella? Ella Grey? Ah, yes. You are one of our soon-to-be Cinderellas. You two can rehearse on the stage if you'd like. I always preferred to get used to my performing space. Now, shoo, have some privacy before my the other students intrude." She smiled, and waved us off into the auditorium.
