Glowing image, heaps of money, what did they promise you?
Expenses, taxes, money or your life
Once you get in, you’re stuck with the strife
The government lies, the people are divided
You can’t go any place without getting subsided
The times, the stress, the work never ends
You’ll work til you die just to watch your kids bend
To the pressure, society, drugs, poverty
They promise you riches then take your own property
I can’t speak my mind without someone getting hurt
I can’t stay silent without getting sent back to Earth
Wake up to reality, our country is in shambles
This poem hasn’t followed the assignment but it is a voice to my rambles
They say you’ll be free, get money, thrown into success
But they lie, and they cheat, to keep you under duress
The government doesn’t care, you can kiss freedom goodbye
Constantly stressed to the bone, no one cares if you cry
Social media is propaganda, they say you have a voice
Then immediately beat you down if you don’t align with their choice
You can take shit from republicans and be annoyed by the liberals
Because we’d rather do anything than agree on our principles
Walking the streets as a straight white male?
You get profiled and blamed and thrown away without bail
No matter your color, your race, your sex or your life
You will get ridiculed and judged under the knife
Don’t believe what they say, if you were poor there
You can’t do anything without some help that they won’t share
They have all these charities and causes and programs
Yet nothing gets better, we fall into God’s cruel hands
I can’t stress enough that you should get out while you still can
….But you can’t, can you
Because everywhere else is worse
Because nobody else will listen to your soft-spoken words
So my advice in this situation?
Make sure you’re heard.
