(Nico's POV)
".. So now I have to clean the entire cabin on my own! Can you believe that?"
Will droned on about his predicament, but Nico wasn't really listening. He was wondering why he had agreed to help. Nico didn't even like cleaning, and one look at the Hades cabin would tell you he wasn't the best organizer either. But Nico found that whenever Will said something, he felt compelled to agree. He still wasn't quite sure why. He and Will hadn't even known each other that long.
Nico blinked his eyes into focus just in time to see that he and Will had made it to the door of the Apollo cabin. Will pushed it open and groaned. The cabin really was a mess.
"Holy shit," Nico breathed, stepping inside. "Will, this is going to take forever."
"Let's try to make it twenty minutes, I hate being late for dinner," Will said, as he walked over to a desk in the corner. At least, Nico thought it was a desk. He couldn't really tell, but he assumed there had to be something holding up that tower of books and papers.
"Why didn't you ask one of the Demeter kids to help you clean up?" Nico asked, as he pulled a blanket over one of the bunks. "I hear their cabin is always spotless."
Nico thought he saw Will blush, but he couldn't be sure, since Will was facing the other way. "I dunno," he replied. "I guess... I thought it would be cool to hang out with you."
Nico couldn't believe he was hearing Will right. "You... Thought it would be cool... To hang out... With me? Nobody ever hangs out with me, at least not willingly."
Will sighed and turned around. Whatever blush that might've been in his cheeks had faded by now. "Tons of people would hang out with you, Nico. It's you who never hangs out with people willingly."
"Name one person who would hang out with me."
"I would."
"Well, duh. Someone else."
"Okay, let's see... Jason. Percy. Piper. Annabeth. That Reyna girl. Your sister, Hazel. And that Hermes girl who's always staring at you. I'm sure she wouldn't mind hanging out with you." Will smiled, but his heart wasn't in it, like it usually was. Something about that last girl had killed his mood.
Nico rolled his eyes. "Whatever."
Will chuckled. "That girl, what's her name? Jen? Jenny? Yeah, that's it. Anyway, I bet she likes you."
Nico shrugged. "I don't care."
Will leaned against the wall and looked at Nico thoughtfully. "Who do you like, Nico?"
Nico raised an eyebrow at Will. "And why, exactly, do you care?"
Will held his hands up. "Just curious."
"Well, I'm not telling you."
"So you do like someone!"
"I didn't say that either."
Will sighed and continued to excavate the desk. Nico got down on his hands and knees to reach the junk under the beds. Most of it was just dusty trash: three ripped pieces of paper with nothing written on them, a pretty good drawing of a dragon, a pretty bad drawing of a unicorn eating an ice cream cone, a sketch of what seemed to be a mountain but had been erased so many times that it looked like a volcano, an empty pen, a broken pencil, and a yellow bracelet made poorly of elastic bands. Nothing that particularly caught Nico's eye.
After Nico had taken everything out from under the bed, he took one last look to make sure he hadn't missed anything. Scanning the darkness with his eyes, he spotted a crumpled piece of paper that he hadn't noticed before. He stretched out his hand a managed to grab it, pulling it out into the light. Just out of curiosity, Nico unfolded the paper to see if there was anything written on it.
There was. Nico's eyes felt like they were going to pop out of their sockets.
"Uh, Will? What's this?"
Will casually walked over, but froze when he saw what Nico was holding. "Um..."
It was undoubtedly a drawing of none other than Will and Nico, shirtless, making out. Nico was lying on his back on one of the bunks in the Apollo cabin, with Will on top of him, staring into each other's eyes, their mouths connected. The drawing wasn't coloured, but the boys in the picture couldn't possibly be mistaken for anyone else.
"That's not mine," Will said quickly.
Nico looked up at Will. "Oh, come on, Will. It's obviously yours. I've seen you draw before. This is exactly your style."
Will turned red. "I didn't mean for you to find that. I forgot it was under there," Will muttered, breaking his eye contact with Nico and stuffing his hands in his pockets.
Nico stood up, the picture still in his hand. "I, uh... Didn't know you... Thought about this kind of... Stuff."
Will chuckled nervously. "It's not like I think about it all the time."
"Yeah, me neither."
Will sputtered. "Wait, what? You... You think about... This?" He pointed at the drawing.
Nico blushed. "Sometimes. Often."
Nico never would have expected what came next. Will leaned over and gave him a quick peck on the lips. When he pulled away, Nico blinked in surprise.
"Well."
Will laughed. "Well indeed," he agreed.
Nico's shocked expression slowly turned into a grin, and the two boys burst out laughing. It took a few moments for them to regain their composure.
"I think we're late for dinner," Will said, smiling. "Care to join me?"
"Don't mind if I do," Nico replied happily, and after folding the picture and putting it in his pocket, the two boys left the cabin, together.
