"You gave them every right to love you too."

"I'm so glad you guys could make it tonight!" Jane spoke with bone-rattling enthusiasm, she was smiling in a beautiful blood red cocktail dress and her hair fell to one side in loose curls, her lips matched her dress and only made her teeth whiter. She looked like the star of an eighties movie and I was quite envious.

"You look beautiful, Jane." I turned to Jonah who had plastered a smile on his face after I threatened him to be nice, it had been a long day and I don't think either of us had any effort left for anything.

"You really think so? Are you sure it isn't too much? I haven't seen Trevor's parents in months and I wanted to make a good impression." She smoothed down her dress which made the bangles that hung on her arms jingle.

"No you look amazing, doesn't she Jonah?" I rested a hand on his shoulder but he was still admiring the venue to take notice. I had to agree that the place was breathe-taking to say the least.

"Huh? Oh yeah definitely, you look great. Almost out-do this place." We all chuckled at Jonahs dry humor. Dork.

"You think it isn't too grand? I just want them to like me." I could tell that Jane was on edge, she was trying her best to impress Trevor's parents when I don't think she really needed to. They would still like her just as much as they did months ago.

"Jane, I'm sure their opinions on you wouldn't have changed in a couple of months, and after all this trouble you've gone to I don't think anything can go wrong." People were scattered all over the place, she didn't mention hiring out the whole restaurant.

"You're right, I'm just overthinking again. Well enough of me, look at you two!" She gestured her hands towards us and we both smiled.

I forced Jonah into a dress shirt and black trousers with a black tie - which matched my simple black dress that fell just above my knees. My hair was greaser than usual which concluded to me hiking it up into a bun.

"Why don't you grab something to drink at the bar, don't worry about paying I put a tab on, and I'll catch you up later on?" She gave us a wink before leaving to greet another couple who looked like they were also scraping all the energy they had to be excited on a late Wednesday night.

"Do you remember when you first met my parents?" Jonah questioned taking my waist as we walked to the bar.

"How could I forget." I was trying my hardest not to burst out laughing.

A couple years ago Jonahs parents had gone away for a weekend and he had the place to himself, we spent the weekend together watching movies and exchanging kisses. Being the rebellious wannabe I was I took up the offer - behind my parents back of course and loved living off the risk that I could end up living my life locked up in a cement tower. But his parents came home early and walked in on us in the kitchen, I was in one of Jonahs shirts wearing nothing but underwear and was sat upon the kitchen bench whilst Jonah was in between my legs being the hormonal seventeen year old he would've been.

"Can I get a lemonade and a corona please." The waitor nodded and continued to serve some other guests.

"I told you they wouldn't hate you."

"I know but I gave them every right to." We grabbed our drinks and sat down at a table furthest from any people.

"You gave them every right to love you too." Jonah smiled at me before taking a swig of his beer.

Jonahs parents weren't like Jonah at all, firstly, they were English and he was more care free soul. But his parents were like the people you see always on their laptops or talking to someone through the Bluetooth plugged in their ear and thought that even a spec of spontaneousness was 'utterly ridiculous'.
Jonah was never good at school, he wasn't very book smart. Back then he had no motivation or inspirational when it came to his future. His parents didn't like me at first, I don't blame them. To them I was just adding to Jonahs list of distractions from school. It's not like they were around enough to notice much when it came to Jonah back then. Their first impression of me wasn't what I wanted it to be, a girl they walked in on half naked on their kitchen bench and to top it off they hadn't the slightest clue I was going to be there when they got back. They didn't ban Jonah from seeing me, as I said they weren't around enough to keep an eye on him since they were always away on business. But they did notice Jonahs grades begin to pick up and his enthusiasm to go to school heightened since we had some classes together. You could say I was his, motivation.
