*Third POV*

It's been four years since Y/n was saved by Shin. Their life was pretty normal. Their parents would play with them, feed them, and clothe them. They got to play outside, and even visit the village. The villagers were so kind to them. So why did everything have to change.

Hina, their mother was always a little weird. She would obsess over Y/n. The young child didn't really understand what was wrong, but they just felt so uncomfortable. They weren't the only one to notice either. Shin was confused why she was acting like that too. He thought maybe it was because of their lost child.

Ever since they lost their child, she would pretend like nothing happened. But he knew she was heartbroken. He knew she wanted kids more than anything. He wanted to give her that, but he couldn't. They found out she was unable to have kids after she miscarried.

So maybe Y/n would be a good thing for her, he thought. But for some reason, her smiles became strained. She became distant. Her eyes were filled with pain and hatred. Maybe having Y/n here was hurting her? He didn't know, but he was going to find out.

After Y/n was asleep, he got ready for bed. He found his wife already there getting into bed. "Hey, I wanted to talk to you about something. It's about Y/n.", he said. He could see her fist clinched and her face become stoic. "What about them?", she asked boredly. "Why are you acting like this? You know it's really making them uncomfortable. And it's confusing me.", he asked. She scoffed and looked at him strangely. "Acting like what?", she asked.

"Like you don't want them here. When they first got here you acted obsessed with them, and now you are acting cold and distant. I thought you were just obsessed because you always wanted a kid. And maybe because we lost ours. But now you keep pushing them away and dismissing them. Like you don't care about them.", he said.

"Don't bring him up. I don't want to talk about that. And I'm not dismissing them. I mean how am I supposed to act, huh? They're not even my child! You don't understand. I can't pretend to be their mother anymore. I want a child of my own! I want them to look like me, have my blood, come from me! It's not the same! I don't want them anymore!", she shouted angrily.

"How dare you say that! Y/n is our child no matter what! It doesn't matter if they're not blood related or not! They are still our child. We raised them for four years! I'll be damned if you want me to 'get rid of them'! I'm not letting you get rid of my child and that's the end of it!", he shouted back.

"So you are just going to replace him?", she asked. "No! I'm not replacing him! He's dead Hina. When are you going to realize that! I loved him just as much as you! You aren't the only one in pain from his death! But God has blessed us with a second chance, and you are trying to ruin that! Why?! They are our child and you want to get rid of them, just cause they're not him?! That's stupid! I won't allow it!", Shin said angrily.

"Whatever. I don't care what you say. That is no child of mine.", she scoffed and turned away. Shin just sighed and left the room. He decided to go sleep in another room.

The next morning was tense. Y/n was confused as to what was happening, but stayed quiet. "Hey Y/n, you wanna go to the village with me today?", Shin asked with a smile. "Yes!", they smiled. "Okay, go get dressed, sweetie.", he said. They ran to their room to get dressed in their winter clothes, since it was snowing.

The pair walked out hand in hand. It was silent, but not a uncomfortable silence. "Daddy, does mommy hate me?", Y/n asked suddenly. "What? Of course not honey. Mommy is just going through something right now. So don't worry. She loves you. And I love you too.", he said smiling. "Hm okay!", they said.

They went shopping in the village for dinner. Some of the villagers greeted them. They loved how polite Y/n was. And how cute they were too. They would always give Y/n food and candy. Which Shin tried to prevent, but those old ladies were persistent.

Once they got back home, they could see Hina cleaning the floor. She must have been cleaning all day. Maybe stress cleaning? "We're home Mommy!", Y/n shouted. But Hina didn't move to greet them like she usually did. She just stayed there ignoring them. "Come on Y/n, let's go play in your room.", Shin said. And from there things only got worse.

Time skip~

Y/n is now six years old. Their relationship with their mother got worse. Now Hina just flat out ignored them. If they tried talking to her, she would just snap and tell them to go away. She was always glaring. But Shin was still nice. He was more tired now since Hina didn't want to do anything anymore.

She would just glare at them and argue with Shin about the little things. Until one tragic day changed everything, for the worst.

Shin and Y/n were out hunting in the woods all day, having fun. But he didn't even realize the time. It had gotten dark so he told Y/n to hurry up. That was until they heard twigs snap. Y/n got scared and squeezed his hand. "What was that?", they asked shaking. "Y/n, I want you to listen to me okay? Run straight to the house and lock the doors. Put the wisteria flowers on the porch and every windowsill. Can you do that for me?", he asked. "What about you?!", they asked. "Just go. I'll be right behind you! And no matter what you hear, don't turn back.", he said smiling.

Y/n ran straight home, not looking back. They could hear growling and fighting. They started crying in fear. They just hoped their dad would be okay. Once they got home, they found the wisteria plants and put them up. They locked the door and got a knife. It was quiet, too quiet. "Y/n, what are you doing?", asked Hina.

Y/n quickly turned around to see a disheveled Hina. She must have been asleep. "Daddy is out there fighting something! He told me to put up the wisteria and lock the door. But he hasn't come back yet!", Y/n cried. This caused Hina's eyes to widened. She fell to the floor and just cried. She didn't move once. All she did was cry.

A/n: I kinda rushed this. Honestly it is kinda boring rn. I hope it makes sense tho! Thanks for reading!
