What was it like to regret the decision you made? The past month had been anything but relaxing for Jadenyx. He trained day and night, sleeping less than usual. On top of that, confinement made everything worse as he had no way of coming out of his web of thoughts.
He'd agreed to the azuraei's conditions out of his own will. Still it troubled him. He should've fought, or at least negotiated to loosen the terms.
One thing that went well was advancing his Mapping skills. That was fun, no doubt about that. However, this fun disappeared whenever he thought about adventures.
His coming days would be no different from the confinement. He promised to not drag Izanat's name through the mud. . .after this last adventure.
He jumped from his window and ran east of the Azsinelli Hill.
He halted in front of a small, desolate hut at the foot of the hill. And the door welcomed him with a wobble. Insides of the hut was in darkness. He lighted Vycelar at the tip of his finger to guide his way towards the candlestand by the long mirror.
Once he lit the candles, he resumed to sit at the rectangular dining table, which was the only piece of furniture in the single room hut.
He pulled out his Twirly Triquetra and spun it on his finger. Was the deal really worth it? If he wants to break the deal now, would the azuraei allow it?
Maybe it was for the best. In fact, he rejoiced when he accepted the deal. It was exactly what he wished for—free from this city, exploring this country. Somewhere, deep in his heart, there was a ping of sadness slowly engulfing him.The door wobbled again, cutting through his thoughts.
One after the other, Izanat, Sashalia, and Lucantis entered the space and settled in the chairs around the table.
He withdrew the Twirly Triquetra.
"It's lovely to see us together after so long!" Sashalia beamed as she propped her elbows on the table and cupped her chin.
Jadenyx rolled his eyes. "We saw each other two days ago while cleaning the palace. Go away from my vision. Looking at your face is tiring."
She stuck her tongue out in return.
Meanwhile, Izanat walked over to stand at the head of the table and declared, "I am going on as many adventures as possible till I turn eighteen." Saying so, he grinned from ear to ear.Jadenyx dropped his gaze. Defeated. The azuraei had agreed to postpone Izanat's trip till he turned eighteen. This announcement brought no advantage to him as he was going to leave in a couple of weeks. The disheartened part was breaking this news to the prince.
"It's a miracle how the azuraei decided to postpone the expedition," Lucantis replied, reciprocating the same enthusiasm the prince showed.
"His Majesty loves Your Highness!" Sashalia said.
"Na-a! Not a bit." Izanat answered. "He was very disappointed to see me like that. Maybe he hit his head in sleep or something." The prince giggled making his thick soft brown curls bounce.
"You must've held a knife against his throat," Jadenyx commented, letting go of all the unnecessary thoughts and deciding to live in the moment. He met Izanat's eyes consciously for the first time since breaking into the treasure room.
Sashalia laughed. "That's a typical Jade pull. Only you can do such things."
Jadenyx puffed his chest. "See? There's always a benefit to befriending me." He flashed all his teeth at her.
"Oh, really?" She released a pulse of Vycelar. It struck his chest like a spear.
"Ouch! For Haven Lord's mercy, how many times should I tell you not to hit me?" Jadenyx cried, rubbing the injury.
She gave a devilish laugh. "Oh, what a pleasure to see you suffer!"
"Alright, let's not waste anymore time. Where to, Jade?" Lucantis asked.
"To the Sol City."
