[Katalina]

Grant had indeed arranged something. A freaking picnic date. This was the cutest thing anyone had ever done for me. He set the whole thing up by the lake under a weeping willow tree. It honestly looked like something out of a Jane Austin book. We ate our hamburgers (yes, hamburgers on a picnic date. We both agreed, so don't question it) while we watched the sunset.

"You know, this is probably the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me," I said

Grant looked at me with surprise. "No way," he said

I nodded my head. "Yeah, I mean, you clearly thought about this. Just seeing someone put effort into something like this makes me happy. I think I would remember this feeling," I said

Grant raised an eyebrow. "Your parents never did anything for you?" he asked

I laughed a little too quickly. "Heck no. My parents act like I don't exist," I said.

Grant looked at his burger with a frown like it did something to him.

"I'm sorry," he said. "Is that–" he cut himself off and continued eating

"No, what were you going to say?" I asked him

"Is that why you race?" he asked

I nodded slightly. "Part of it," I said. "I found the adrenaline rush was the only thing I liked about life. And, hell, even a group of criminals and gang members cared more about me than my parents ever did." I took a deep breath and clicked my tongue. "But, there's nothing I can do about that, so, here we are."

Grant chuckled.

"What about your parents?" I asked him

"Oh, they're decent parents. My mom is one of my biggest supporters but also makes fun of me and calls me out whenever I need it," Grant laughed lightly. "Dad," he took a deep breath, "Dad is a little different. When I was little he was really distant, but he's been working on that recently."

I nodded, listening as I finished my food. We continued talking for a while, then he stood up suddenly and ran toward the water

"Come on!" he said

I shook my head and laughed. "No way," I said

He ran up to me. "Are you on your period?" he asked. I shook my head. "Do you have invisible hearing aids?" I smiled and said no. "Mhm," he said. "Do you have hemorrhoids?" I started laughing and once again said no. Grant chuckled, grabbed me by the arm as he threw me over his shoulder, and ran out into the lake. I was half-yelling half-laughing while telling him to put me down.

When he was about waist-deep in the water, he stopped. "You should have picked your words a little better," he said as he threw me into the water. He laughed and pulled me up again so I could breathe. He was smiling so brightly that his teeth were showing, which was rare, and his wet black hair was hanging in his face. I smiled and shook my head.

"Thanks for that," I said

He chuckled, as he grabbed me and went back underwater, dragging both of us down. Suddenly I felt his lips on mine. We slowly broke the water's surface again, our lips still connected and moving in sync. He gently bit my bottom, making me gasp. He took the opportunity to slide his tongue against mine. The kiss was quick and passionate, like fireworks exploding and lighting up the dark sky. I wrapped my legs around his waist as he slowly began walking out of the water, his hands under my ass to support me.

He moved his lips to my jawline as he walked towards his car. He made his way down my neck, planting kisses all the way down. I moaned softly, my hands still tangled in his hair. I felt something brush up against my inner thigh, and heat rose in my cheeks.  When we got to his car, he pushed my back against it as he opened the door. He gently held me and placed me on my back across the seats, crawling in on top of me. He pulled his lips away from my neck and locked eyes with me, his fingers playing with the hem of my shirt.

"Can I take this off of you?" he asked with a rasp in his voice. I nodded slightly, by grip on him tightening as he gently kissed under my ear

"Use your words, baby. I need your vocal consent," he said softly, his lips brushing over mine.

His words lit a fire in me, and I lifted my hips, causing him to groan quietly.

"Yes," I breathed

He leaned in and kissed me as he lifted my shirt up. He pulled away and looked down at me, a small smile on his face.

"You're gorgeous," he breathed before his face dipped down to meet the sensitive skin under my breasts. He gently kissed me, slowly moving up before his lips met my left breast, his hands gently massaging the other one. I arched my back in pleasure and moaned softly, making him groan once again.

Suddenly his phone rang, causing both of us to jump slightly. He pulled away from me and sighed.

"That...would be my mom," he said. "That's her ringtone. I have to take it."

I chuckled and grabbed my shirt as he took the call, making sure to be silent.

"Where are you?" his mom asked

"At the lake," he said

"Your dad wants you home," she said

"Ok–"

"Wait, why are you at the lake?" she asked him

We both looked up, making eye contact. "I was watching the sunset," he said

"...Alright," his mom said

When he hung up, I was dressed. He laughed lightly.

"Well, that's one way to end a moment," he said. "Mom wants me home."

"I heard," I laughed.

We got out of the car and cleaned up from the picnic, then he dropped me off at my house.

When I walked inside, my parents were arguing in the kitchen.

"Katalina!" my dad yelled, calling me back into the room. I walked back into the room and turned my head toward them

"What," I said

"Why are you home so late?" he asked me snappily

I paused. He actually noticed. "I was ou–"

"You have a curfew!" he snapped

I looked at my phone. "It's 10:30," I said dryly

"Your curfew is at 10," my mom spoke up

I bit my bottom lip, holding back my comment as I walked up to my room.

"Don't walk away from me!" my dad said

I walked back into the room. "I walked away from you before I said something I would regret," I said

"Say it," my parents both said at the same time.

I nodded. "Fine. Since when do you two give a flying fuck about what time I get home? The last time I got home late mom didn't even notice I was gone until I walked past her office. I haven't been home before 10 since after I turned fifteen," I said. "Both of you are shit parents and you only notice me when you're arguing about your fucked up marriage and you feel like you need to step up and start acting like a real parent, so excuse me for being dismissive about this whole subject." I turned around and walked up to my room, ignoring my parents calling after me. Memories from my past flooded my mind; all the time they rejected me when I was broken. I needed them in the darkest moments of my life, and they never gave a shit about me. My sadness boiled into anger, and grabbed my car keys and climbed out of my window.

Nothing like a drive to get your haunting past out of your mind
