From her hiding place, Jessie watched Roderick Burgess light a match from the table. She waited. When he was out of the room, she snatched up a match and strike along the wall, lighting the head. Dropping it on the paperwork scattered on the desk, she watched the flames grow. The guards ran up from the basement, leaving the door open. Jessie rushed down as fast as she could.

There, in a glass sphere was her king. Ten long years had passed since she saw his face. She rose her fists up, pounding on the glass, trying to break it. All the while, Dream looked at her adoringly. She had not left him, she would never. Suddenly, a pain in her back caused her to slam against the glass and slowly slid down. She felt nothing now. The image of her love's face was the last thing she saw before she went into the darkness.

Jessie screamed. Looking about, she realized that she was in her bedroom. Taking deep breaths, she stumbled to the bathroom. Splashing water on her face, she looked in the mirror. Dream was there.

"You remembered her death." He implored softly. Jessie nodded, keeping eye contacted. "It was my fault. If I wasn't a selfish fool, she would not have died in such a way."

"I would not be here if she did not die." Jessie retorted, drying her face off. "I have seen everything the two of you faced together. Everything." Jessie tossed the towel in the hamper. She turned to him. "She loved you. I think more than you could ever image. It hurt her so bad when you chose Nada and then Calliope. Why? Why did you make Jessamy a raven and not a someone who could tell you how, show you much you meant to them?"

Dream reached out and caressed Jessie's face. "I did not think myself worthy of such a love. Love is Desire's realm, not part of the dream realm."

"Love is part of everything. Without its driving force, this would still be a blank space." Jessie empathized, taking the sides of his face into her hands. Standing on her tiptoes, she pressed her lips against his. Dream returned her kiss, pulling her to his body. Deepening the kiss, Jessie wrapped her arms around his neck. Jessie pulled away. She brushed the hair from his eyes. "I love you, but I know you could never love me in the same way. I am part of the mortal world now and you are the King of Dreams." Tears fell from her eyes. She turned away from him.

Jessie was spun back around by Dream. He kissed her, exploring her mouth with his. He pulled away, leaving her breathless. "I lost Jessamy. I will not lose you, Jessie. I love you. I will love you until this place returns to the blank space that it once was. Somehow, I will bring you back to the dreaming and have you in the position that was yours all this time. As Queen of Dreams."
