But then time passed. Percy was moved to cabin three, classes went on like normal, and Chiron had not yet even mentioned the quest to Percy. From what he had told me, it was time-sensitive.
So why was Percy still oblivious?
Once again, I waited to confront Chiron. It was still early, but I took my place in the Big House's living room. Neither Chiron or I were ones for sleeping in, but I'd been tossing and turning all night with apprehension. The time was almost here.
Only minutes after six in the morning, I began to hear the familiar rattle of Chiron's wheelchair. He couldn't be in horse form inside, because of how tall he was, but it was still fairly uncommon to see him looking like a normal mortal.
"Chiron," I said stiffly. I was never in a great mood, but right then I was downright pissed. In fact, I could feel tears beginning to brim my eyes. I willed them down. "Percy needs a quest."
He startled, but apparently had been expecting me. "I thought you didn't want him to go."
"I didn't want him to be untrained, but Chiron--" I was forced to get up and follow as Chiron moved to the kitchen. "Chiron, he's as ready as he'll ever be. The solstice is coming. It's time."
Chiron sighed. It was obvious he didn't want Percy to go for much of the same reasons as I didn't. But he had to know it was necessary. Annabeth had been right, when she'd said Percy was the one. It was time for him to meet the Oracle.
"I wish it wasn't so," Chiron murmured. "Go get Annabeth, child. You'll accompany him. I'll wake Dionysus and send Grover to bring Percy here."
▬▬▬I WASTED NO TIME. It was early, and fog was still rolling off the ocean, but I knew where Annabeth would be. As always, she was working. She had a Ancient Greek class later, and I knew that she'd be preparing her notes in the amphitheater.
