Emily never thought she would come to Tusker Forks Cavern. It almost felt forever after what happened when she went to the one place she doesn't want to venture back to. Yet here she was because some slugs that were totally unusual by appearance wanted to rescue their slinger, and she could never break a promise to a slug ever.
When they got to the entrance of Tusker Forks, she could see and sense many thought activity in the area. She would sense the whole cancer, but she still would have a headache as a side-effect. It seemed that there was some big event going on, since it seems that there were others setting up camp.
Emily let Burpy lead them and observe the people in order to find some recognization of any Slug Hunter that would help with the search. She thought about talking to someone just in case, but the fact the other two didn't want to cause an uproar and alert the enemy on sight.
Despite sensing her two best friends, she only found out they were not physically close with her when she turned behind her to check. It was only with the help of her Fandango, Audrey that she found the two talking with someone. From the looks of it, this guy looked like he was in the same industry with her foster family. And now that she got a closer look, she noticed that he resembled the same Cave Troll that Abuela Maple met in her early years.
"We're performers señor," Willow said bringing out her flute "We're advertising our family's music restaurant."
"Oh right, the Carvallos," He said. "I heard about what Maple was doing with the family and the inheritance. What I didn't know was that she hired more employees as well."
"Well, we're more of foster sisters," Lupe intervened "I'm more of the brains, Willow's the negotiator, while Emily is the leader and...hey! Where did she go?"
Emily, in a quick second, went off into a dash. She thought she saw something or someone watching her from behind and tapping her on the shoulder. When she managed to get that look, the fact that she looked a lot like Emily was just enough to almost have a heart attack. And when the woman started to leave, Emily had to follow her. She only managed to get a few meters before she tripped on something, and she looked up, the streets showed no sign of the lady.
"Emily, what was that all about?" Lupe asked "You ran off without even making a reason or notice."
"I..." Emily was frantic from the running and the searching, yet her mind kept wandering back to the figure that somehow managed to leave without ever being seen "I think I'm seeing things." "But you have handled many mental troubles before, right?" Lupe replied "You can do it again. Whatever this illusion is trying to show you, just make sure to question it fairly. This secret mission is far too dangerous to deal with in public."
"Girls, please!" Willow interrupted "Can we just push off the whole troubling visions and get back to the now? Those Slug Hunters may already be figuring something out when they see us with these slugs. Getting attention isn't part of the plan!"
Willow: Can we try to have an optimistic outlook, huh? Can we buck up just enough to see the world won't fall apart? Maybe this year we decide, we're not giving up before we tried. This year, we make a new start.
"Look, maybe we should start doing the rescue" Willow continued "That way we can get back to our daily travel lives before anything bad already happens."
Emily and Lupe looked at each other as Burpy also chirped in response. Emily made a small as she listened to the Infurnus "I hate to break it, but Willow's right. I don't like breaking a promise to a slug. We'll worry about this later. Right now we have a job to do."
Willow: Another stellar conversation for the scrapbook. Another stumble as I'm reaching for the right thing to say. I'm kinda coming up empty, can't find my way to you.
Willow: Does anybody have a map? Anybody maybe happen to know how the hell to do this? I don't know if you can tell, but this is me just pretending to know. So where's the map? I need a clue 'cause the scary truth is I'm flying blind and I'm making this up as I go.
"How about creating a distraction?" Willow suggested "We can let the slugs rescue their slinger and have all of them run away while we stay far. That would give us a perfect alibi."
"That sounds good," Emily complimented "But Willow, these guys may not take the distraction likely and figure it out. They did take their slinger in one go." Willow's ears drooped in response to her emotion, but Lupe patted her head and helped clear out a tear that was forming from one of her eyes "I say we take them by surprise. I can use one of my Jellyish compounds to immobilize their movement before we strike."
Willow: Another masterful attempt ends with disaster.
Lupe: (spoken) This looks good.
Willow: Pour another cup of coffee and watch it all crash and burn.
Emily: (spoken) Who finished the milk?
Willow: It's a puzzle, it's a maze. I try to steer through it a million ways, but each day's another wrong turn.
Lupe: (spoken) Alright, I'm all set.
Emily: (spoken) Remember, it's now or never.
Willow: Does anybody have a map? (Emily and Lupe: Anybody have a map?) Anybody maybe...
Willow, Emily, and Lupe: Happened to know how the hell to do this? I don't know if you can tell, but this is me just pretending to know.
Willow: So where's the map?
Emily: I need a clue.
Lupe: 'Cause the scary truth is...
Willow: I'm flying blind.
Lupe: I'm flying blind.
Emily: I'm flying blind.
Willow: I'm flying...
Emily, Lupe, and Willow: I'm flying blind and I'm making this up as I go. As I go.
