The room was silent after Scourge's story, nobody knowing how to react. It was so hard to believe, but at the same time, it made sense. Sonic sighed and held the green hedgehog close to him, leaning back on the couch so that he was laying on his back, with his doppelganger on top of him, just like back in the woods when they had collided. He gently brushed the green quills and rubbed Scourge's back in comfort.
"I'm so sorry you had to go through that… and again just a few hours ago." He whispered into the green ear.
Scourge couldn't hold it back anymore and started purring, blushing as he nuzzled into Sonic's fur, feeling warm, safe, and comforted. "It's ok. I'm just glad that you're here to protect me."
Sonic blushed at the statement, but didn't say anything as he continued to hold him, happy to know that he was able to make Scourge feel safe.
The room remained silent, nobody daring to make a move or a sound. That is, until Shadow suddenly stood up. Everybody watched him, feeling nervous as he went around the house and locked every door and window that led to the outside. Shadow was not known to be paranoid, so the fact he was acting this way let the others know that this was serious.
"If what you say is true then we can't take any risks." He said as he came back to the living room and sat down. "No one leaves this house tonight."
"I agree." Sonic nodded. "We're stronger in numbers if she decides to come around."
"But what about my mom?" Cream asked innocently. "We didn't talk about a sleepover."
"Chao chao." Cheese agreed.
The others looked at each other, realizing that she was right. Nobody ever planned a sleepover. They were all just expecting to have a nice picnic in the forest, and now it was already getting dark out. If they didn't get Cream home soon, Vanilla may start to worry.
"Would your mom believe us if we called and told her there's probably a very scary demon dog outside that wants to kill us, and for some reason probably won't die either?" Sonic dared to try.
"Come on Sonic, not even I would believe that if I hadn't seen it for myself." Silver frowned.
"Then what do we do?" Amy wondered worriedly.
"... You guys should go home."
Everybody looked over at the green hedgehog, who was still laying against Sonic's chest.
"What?" Shadow frowned, unable to believe that Scourge would suggest such a thing. “And what if she attacks us when we’re separated?”.
"It's me she's after. Not any of you. She only attacked you because you were protecting me. You should be safe. She won't come for you."
"We're not leaving you." Blaze countered firmly. "We're in this together."
"... You're gonna get yourselves killed." Scourge whimpered, sniffing a little. "You're gonna get yourselves killed for me." He started to cry, terrified for their lives. He didn't want anyone to die at his expense, especially after they were so kind to him.
"Hey. Hey." Sonic whispered, sitting up and holding him close. "Hey. Scourge. Look at me. Look at me, Scourge."
Scourge sniffed and looked at him with tearfilled eyes. Sonic smiled and gingerly wiped the tears away, just like he had done earlier. "Nobody is gonna die tonight. Not on my watch."
"You can't stop her."
"The least we can do is try and put up a damn good fight." Knuckles frowned. "That's what we're good at."
"And besides, she's not getting in." Shadow shook his head. "Not after I locked every door and window leading to the outside. We should be safe."
Suddenly, at that moment, something heavy slammed against the door, startling the group.
