The drive home was filled with drowned out music and Dustin talking about anything and everything. I spaced out several minutes ago. Partly due to the fact that I haven't been sleeping well and my attention span is equivalent to that of an avocado. But there was something else. I couldn't stop thinking about Billy staring at me.
"Steve, are you listening to me?" Dustin snapped his fingers by my ear.
"Sorry man, I just had a long day. What'd you say?"
"I said, do you think we can have the party over today?" I really wasn't feeling it, but I wouldn't actually have to watch them, so I figured why not make the kid happy.
"Sure."
"SWEET! I'll tell them all to come over." Dustin started talking through his walkie talkie. I went back to spacing out for the rest of the drive. We soon pulled up to my house and went inside.
"Alright kiddo, just set up the living room. I'll be upstairs for a few."
"Wait, Steve, can I pick out some movies?"
"Yeah, go ahead." I patted his head with my hand and turned to go upstairs. I decided to take a quick shower before the rest of the party got here. I had been upstairs for about 15 minutes before I came back down. Dustin had gathered any snacks he could find onto the living room table, and he took some of the blankets out of the closet and put them on the couch. Then I heard the first knock at the door.
