The next morning, I heard whispers around me, they seemed to be about me.

"Is he alright?" one of the voices whispered.

"Should we wake him?" asked another.

"Should we get Moon?" asked another. These voices were starting to get on my nerves, I simply decided to roll over and ignore them. Then I heard tiny footsteps making their way towards the crowd of invisible voices, invisible to me at least. The voices continued to whisper in my head.

"Look at that scar on his eye, looks like a crosshair," one of them whispered.

"Look at all the tiny teal lines on the outlines of his body, and the lightning stripes on his arms," another whispered.

"And those sharp claws too," one of them whispered, shivering audibly at the sight of my razor-sharp claws. They seem to have noticed my scythe lying next to me but said nothing of it. Shortly after, I felt someone shaking me awake.

"Kid, wake up. Hey, kid," said the voice. I reluctantly opened my eyes, what greeted me was a small koala in a navy-blue blazer, white shirt, and red bowtie. Along with other animals crowded around us. I groaned; I was having a nice dream about being railed by a sexy werewolf and these guys just had to come along and wake me up.

"Mnn...Yeah?" I groaned lazily. All of the animals backed up a step, for fear I might chew them all to bits with my sharp fangs, except for the Koala, he showed no sign of fear or intimidation.

"My name's Buster Moon, and these are my performers," he said, gesturing to the animals progressively backing away.

"Um...H-hi, I'm M-mina," stammered the elephant in a teal hoodie and jeans, shivering violently.

"I'm Rosita, and this is Gunter," said the pig, gesturing to the other pig waving energetically.

"I'm Johnny, it's a pleasure to meet you," said Johnny a thick british tone in his voice, he was a gorilla with brown eyes and black fur. He wore a black leather jacket, green shirt with a lightning bolt design, blue jeans, and dark blue and white lace-up shoes. I smiled, subtly baring my fangs.

"I'm Ash," smiled the small porcupine. Judging by her outfit, she seemed to be a heavy metal singer.

"Name's Shadow, I'm a lone wolf," I said, smiling modestly.

"Where is your family?" asked Moon.

"I don't have a family, not anymore..." I replied, staring out the door.

"We're your family now," smiled Buster, a warm and friendly tone in his voice. I stood up slowly and walked outside to the convenience store to buy myself some breakfast. I paid for a cup of coffee and left.

As soon as I returned, I noticed everyone was gone. So, I reclaimed my corner by the door and scrolled mindlessly through Twitter. The sounds of silence filled the peaceful theater. Until Moon walked towards me, "Can I ask you something?"

"Sure," I replied, taking a sip of coffee.

"Do you know what music is?" he questioned, shaking slightly. I did, in fact, know what music was, though I didn't much care for it unless it was hard rock or some pop tune from a video game...

"Yeah," I answered calmly. Moon's smile broadened.

"You ever compose music before?" he inquired.

"Sometimes," I replied modestly, sipping my coffee. He told me he had an idea for an Alice in Wonderland musical and wanted me to write the music. Obviously, I accepted. Moon gave me the script and a few sheets of paper and a pencil. I slowly read over the script, imagining the musical in my head. I wrote each note on the page carefully. The first song would be slightly suspenseful, with a hint of dread, which would capture the audience's attention. The second song would be somewhat whimsical, to show Alice's curiosity when entering Wonderland. I spent the remainder of the afternoon working on the music, erasing and rewriting multiple times, going through multiple sheets of musical composition paper from having to erase so many damn times, almost literally losing my mind over every tiny detail. From the notes themselves all the way down to even the articulations, making sure it sounded exactly right...By the end of the day, I was finally satisfied. Now all we had to do was rehearse it.

We all gathered on stage in the center of the theater, Moon and I at the center of the circle of performing animals, handing out roles. After he had handed out roles, we all unanimously decided on some props. Three hours of rehearsal later, everyone went home, other than me and Moon. Moon went to his office, and I was left alone, I went to my corner behind the door and fell asleep.

When I woke up the next morning, the sun was still rising slowly in the sky. Moon was already awake sitting next to me with a cup of coffee.

"Morning," he said, watching the sunrise.

"Morning, Moon..." I yawned, blankly staring out the window. Soon, everyone else had arrived, ruining the perfect peace that was being shared between Moon and I. Rehearsals went on as normal, for the most part. I was really only watching half-heartedly. This boring process repeated for three weeks, and now it was time to perform.

Honestly, I never thought much of these Hollywood scouts, and especially not Suki Lane. They were always a bit cruel when judging a performance. I stood in my post, the lowly corner behind the theater door, when Moon was chasing down Suki Lane. I hid behind the door, so as to not draw attention to myself.

"It's a cute little show," she said, that wretched better-than-everyone-else tone in her voice, "but you'll never make it in the big leagues." Moon pleaded desperately with the unbearably skinny dog; you could practically see her bones coming out of her shirt she was so skinny. Unfortunately, Moon's desperate pleas were fruitless, and he came back damp and wet from a dip in the canal. I would've helped Moon, but this was his fight, not mine. He sighed as he sulked into his office, I slumped into my corner behind the door, drained of all hope of ever seeing the big city. Everyone else went home, just as sad and depressed as we were.
