Once we arrived at the café we found a table and sat down. A waiter came up to us.

He wasn't smiling but he didn't seem mad either. Just monotone.

"What could I help you with today?" he asked in a neutral voice. Looking down at us, we sat at the table.

"I would like the Southern Omelette and we're both taking the hot chai with oat milk," Carmen said, as she skimmed over the menu.

He looked in my direction now. I coughed slightly looking at the menu.

"The Breakfast sandwich, please," I said. "Without the tomatoes."

He nodded and went towards the kitchen to give the order. When he had done that, he started cleaning the other tables around. I watched him as he did so.

I huffed and put my attention towards Carmen, watching her instead. Her high cheekbones and perfectly done eyebrows. She had done her eyeliner as well, but it was way bigger than what mine was.

I could feel she was tired, so I didn't really bother to say anything other than giving her a smile. In the hope that it was a comfort that I knew she was tired.

I again turned my head slightly to watch the waiter. He had dark brown, almost black, hair. Seemed muscular at the looks of it, from his firm back, he was also very lanky and didn't have the best posture. I'd guess him to be taller than Carmen, but I can't tell when we're sat down.

He turned his head and looked straight at me. As fast as I had registered he was looking, as fast I had turned my attention towards my hands that were placed in my lap.

That was awkward...

I looked up again, but he wasn't there. Thankfully.

10 minutes had passed where me and Carmen just had small conversations and then our food came. And of course her face was lit with a thousand stars when she saw our food.

But to my luck, it was of course the same waiter that came with our food. I shouldn't be surprised by this, but I was.

To my shock, he actually smiled. It was only for a short second, but I saw it. He had a dimple in one cheek. It went well with the short and wavy hair and those dark eyes.

He wasn't nearly at our table yet, before Carmen spoke to me. "Are you checking him out, Sky?"

I knew she was teasing but I blushed at the thought. Not the typical thing to do when you're out eating breakfast with your best friend.

He arrived at our table, putting our order down to the right people. Our food on one arm and our drinks on a tray balanced in his hand. It looked hard to do, but he seemed skilled.

"Here's your food, guys. Hope you enjoy your stay, call me over if you need anything," he said in a monotone voice, not showing any emotion.

Carmen and I smiled at him, telling him thank you and with that, he went back to cleaning tables.

I got a look at his name tag. His name was Samuel. Which made me think, how religious could his parents be? Not that I think there's anything wrong with it, but I haven't seen someone with that name before. Not other than in religion class.

Half an hour later, Carmen and I had finished our food, laughed at different things, talked about boys, girls and everything. I loved using my time with her, she always managed to make me smile. I of course also managed to make her smile, but that really wasn't so difficult to do.

We walked up to the counter, Samuel standing there being ready to take our payment for the order and food. He looked at us, first Carmen and then at me.

"You're ready to pay for your order, I assume?" he asked and looked at us, sending a slight smile.

"Mhm," Carmen hummed, looking in her bag to find her wallet. "You take card, right?"

I mentally face palmed at her comment. She knew they took cards, she had been here many times.

"We do, yeah. I suppose that's how you want to pay, then?" He looked monotone at her, seeming a bit annoyed but I couldn't really tell, from the lack of emotion in his face.

He had a really pretty face. A sharp nose, olive skin, long lashes. He was significantly taller than Carmen, even considering that she had 10cm platforms on. Which was shocking to me. He had to be around 2 meters.

I didn't even register that he stared at me now, before I zoned out from admiring his... strong beauty? I got flustered and looked down. Once again.

"Yes, of course. I wouldn't have asked, if I wouldn't have paid that way," she said in a sarcastic voice. "But thank you for making sure. I'd like to pay now." With that she smiled.

He nodded, clearly dismissing her sarcastic choice of tone. "Put your card here and your payment will go through. Do you want the receipt on that?"

"Yes please," I replied. Getting a scowl from Carmen, because she knows I now plan on paying her back. She didn't like when I wanted to pay for my own things.

"Here you go," Samuel said, pulling the small paper out of the machine. "I hope you guys enjoy the rest of your day."

We told him you too in sync and with that we exited the cafe for the last time in a really long time.
