M.H
I woke up to a banging on my door.
"Madden get up. Your father wants to see you in his office." one of the workers said.
"Tell him I'll be there in a minute, geez." I replied exhausted because I stayed up reading the past few days. I trudged out of my bed and into the hall. There were people hustling around, mostly workers trying to get their work done so they don't get yelled at.I stepped in front of my fathers office door praying he wouldn't yell at me for the hundredth time this week for 'being lazy' when I work my butt off reading and sleeping. It takes a lot of effort, you know. Anyways I stand in front of my fathers office door with my hand on the handle and take a deep breath. When I finally open the door I see my father in his natural habitat, his office. He is in here for at least 22 hours out of the day unless he's not sleeping or eating.
" Hello Father, You wanted to see me?" I said walking up to his desk
"Ah yes, hello son. I wanted to talk to you about something." He spoke, still looking at the things on his desk, which I just think is paperwork or something that I don't necessarily care about.
"Well what did you want to talk about?" I soon replied in quite an annoyed way as I rolled my blue eyes, I already knew he wanted to talk otherwise I wouldn't be here.
"Watch your tone with me son." My dad spitted harshly at me as he looked at his papers before continuing, "but I brought you here to ask you something regarding my work."
"Alright what is it?" I replied getting irritated that it is taking him so long to tell me what he wants.
"I wanted to tell you that you have to go down to Earth to help me with my work." He said looking up at me with a stern look. My eyes soon widened in disgust as I heard those words come out of his mouth.
"No, I am not going down to that disgusting place. Why are you sending me down there? Can't you send anybody else other than me?" I asked, pleading. I really didn't want to go down to Earth."No, I can't send anybody else to Earth because you need to learn how to do my job so you can take over when I am longer able to do so." My father said, crossing his lanky arms.
I stare at the man in disbelief as I shift my weight onto my left foot as I have my hands in the pockets of my sweats. "Have you ever thought that I don't want to be your test dummy? And frankly this job seems stupid." I grunted as my father leaned closer to his desk raising one eyebrow indicating me to continue my rant. "It's stupid, it's stupid to make people fall in love why can't humans just do it themselves and not make us do it for them?" I run my fingers through my pale pink hair, which came from my dad but now his hair is grayer."Madden. We both know it's challenging for them to do it on their own...but enough fighting about it and just listen to me."
"Ugh fine. How long do I have to be there?"
He leans back into his brown leather chair as he grabs some papers from a small pile and grazes the words. "About a month or two." my gaze quickly turns to him as my eyes begin to widen. "Two months!?" I screeched
"Or one" he added calmly as he stood up from his desk and headed to his large bookshelf and took a blue covered book before turning back to me and handing the said book to me. I looked at the object in confusion when my dad started to talk.
"This is a book son" I rolled my eyes as I took the book and opened it. "I can see that, I am not stupid""If you would let me finish.'' I just shrugged my shoulders before dropping the blue cover back into my dad's hands and lifted myself on his desk since I knew he hates it when I do it. "This book isn't just a book, it's an earth guide to give you knowledge on everything you need to know like what school is like or how to act around others" he said while he pushed me off his desk and wiped his desk with a rag.
"I know what school is...how stupid do you think I am?"
He sighed looking at me with frustration and a bit sympathy as he walks towards me
"I never said I thought you were stupid. I just wanted to make things easier for you." He said with the same sympathy in his green eyes as he stared into my blue ones. When my father reached me he gave me a brief hug.
I just stood there not knowing what to say, I really didn't want to go. Earth probably isn't as bad as I make it seem but I just can't go back to the place my mom used to live, the place that made her not be around anymore.
I do want to make my father proud.... since there isn't really anything else that could make him feel that way, all I do is sit around and complain.."Okay, I'll do it. I'll go to Earth for your stupid job." I grumbled admitting defeat.
"Thank you son. This means a lot to me." my father said with a toothy grin but quickly went back to his expressionless face"Yeah, yeah whatever, can I go back to my room now?" I groan softly before heading to the door
"You'll be leaving next thing tomorrow so it's best to be ready by then." He shouted as I was walking out the door of his office.
Great, I have to spend maybe two months of my life on grimy earth, how amazing...well I guess I have to just suck it up and start to pack with the little amount of crap I have.
