ABOUT:

Vaithraxin is a white dragonborn, born to a human mother (Hannah Barnes) and an adult white dragon (Freithen, the Champion of the Cold) who had polymorphed into a human and fallen in love. Vai grew up in a small village, where her mother was a seamstress in the nearby city, but her father had left shortly after her birth so as to not expose himself for being an actual dragon. Due to the city being a couple of days' travel away, her mother would sometimes leave for days on end to work, and when she wasn't home, Vai would wander the village asking anyone and everyone she could for any information about her father.

Vai and her mother stayed in that small village for 15 years, until one day when her mother caught an incredible break. The queen of the kingdom had heard of the work her mother put in and wanted to hire her to dress the royal family for an upcoming event that was to occur in about 3 months' time. Her mother, of course, refused to say no, and after a few days the two of them were moved to the large city so her mother didn't have to travel the two days to the city and leave Vai behind. Days would go by where her mother would leave early in the morning, and Vai would get up to take care of the home and get groceries, until one night, her mother sent her a note telling her she'd be staying overnight in the castle's workshop to finish up some embroidery. Vai thought that was kind of weird, considering her mother would normally just bring that kind of work home with her, but she didn't question it because her mother had never given her cause to worry before.

Vai waited for her mother for two days before she began to become really worried. She decided to leave the apartment early one morning and head over to the castle to call on her mother, but she never actually made it there. She thought it would be a good idea to take a shortcut down some of the alleyways and was stopped by two people in cloaks and hoods. A gruff voice spoke to her from under one of the hoods, "And just where do you think you're goin', little miss?" Vai started to walk backwards, "Um, nowhere, sorry... I'll just be going now..." As she stepped backward, she bumped into two more people, "Now, now. If you don't struggle, no harm will come to you." Vai felt the two people behind her grab both of her arms and that was when the full panic began to set in. She struggled against their grasp as they pulled her down into an underground cellar and bound her legs and arms, leaving her there to struggle until she wore herself out, where they then moved her in the dead of night out of the city in a covered cart to some place deep in the forest.

Vai, after being taken, was kept in a small room, just big enough for a bed and a desk. She spent days in that small room, where the only interaction she had with anyone was one person bringing her food. For the first few days, she would refuse to eat, and spend hours crying herself into unconsciousness. After about a week of the simplest of interaction, Vai finally realized she wouldn't be able to escape (not yet) and was finally taken from the room. "So, you've finally come to your senses, eh? Good. Now you've finally got a use to us. Here, take this, don't cut yourself. It'll trigger the bear." Vai flinched as the person took a dagger from his belt and tossed it at her, the blade landing in the sand at her feet...

Vai laid in bed, her hands shaking and her eyes darting around the dark room, looking towards the door as if any second the devil himself would walk through it to escort her to Avernus for her sins. What bothered her most though, wasn't the screaming or the light fading from his eyes, but the feeling. The way her dagger gently slid across his throat, like a hot knife cutting through soft butter, the wet feeling of his blood coating her hand like thick water. She couldn't eat or sleep, she just cowered, in fear of herself and what she'd done...

That wasn't the first time, nor would it be the last time Vai would spill the blood of an innocent person for the entertainment of the sick bastards that kept her enslaved. As she grew stronger, her feelings toward the taking of a life grew from hatred to almost a sick pleasure. She went from feeling queasy at the sight of blood to enjoying the feeling and sound of someone's bones breaking in her jaw. She was becoming feral, losing her semblances of humanity, forgetting that the situation she was in wasn't her choice, her path. It was that way for almost two years, she was on a win streak of almost 70, but something changed in her one fateful summer night.

Vai was lying in bed, the light of the full moon streaming in through the barred window she was finally allowed to have. She knew she'd have to fight again the next day, so she was trying to get some rest, but something felt off and that was when she heard it. A crying, but not of an animal or an adult person, but of a child. A young girl, sobbing for "anybody, somebody, please let me go home!!" Something stirred in Vai's chest, a mix of anger and sadness, along with a feeling to protect. The next day, as she was being escorted to training, she noticed the girl standing in the pit. She stood next to her and as the men walked away, she asked her "what's your name, little one?" The girl replied in a shaky voice, "Mallory..." Vai nodded, "Don't worry Mallory. I'll protect you."

Vai tried her best to protect Mallory, helping her through the "training process", keeping her company when she could, trying to come across as more of an older sister to her. Mallory warmed up to her and told her about herself, what she wanted to do, where she wanted to go, and how she felt like her whole world was crumbling by the minute because she was stuck, locked up in the stupid small arena. Vai never told her about what happened to her, but context clues lead Mallory to come to a similar conclusion. All was well, until they were brought before a man, wealthy in appearance. He informed them that he would be choosing one, and that person would earn their "freedom" from the arena. All they had to do was win their fight, and they'd be taken and released.

Vai immediately knew that she'd be able to take on anyone in the ring, but what she wasn't ready for, was the group to put her up against the one person she would never have wanted to fight in the first place, Mallory. She stepped into the ring, her great sword in hand, and peered into the shadows, only to find that small, skittish, young girl she'd helped all those nights. Mallory walked out, holding a short sword, approaching Vai in the center of the arena. Vai's cocky smile faded, and she held her sword tip towards the floor, saying, "Mal, I don't want to hurt you." But that didn't matter, as Mallory took the moment of weakness into account and she swung out at Vai, slashing across her chest. Vai was soon blinded by the pain-turned-to-rage she was feeling, and she lashed out once, twice, three times, cutting Mallory down. The arena erupted into cheers that turned to hushed whispers as cold stormy clouds began to coalesce around Vai, as blinding snow and glacial winds whipped through the stands. Vai let out a pained roar of anguish and dropped to her knees in front of the young girl, and just began to sob, until the winds stopped, and she was moved from the arena to a carriage.

Vai stared out the window, watching herself leave the only "homes" she had really ever known. She wondered where they were going to let her out at, and felt a small twinge of guilt, her heart still not fully over what she had done. After a day of travel, the carriage stopped, and Vai got out, stretched out and fell asleep. She woke up after a couple of hours and heard the men talking about some place she had heard of and feared, the slaughter crown arena. Suddenly, she realized exactly what "freedom" had meant....
