Chapter 8

Chase

I took a deep breath. I hadn’t actually thought of a good excuse for why I was here. I had been in my car thinking about what I should say to her when they walked to room number twelve. He looked like he was flirting with her…then he went into her room. I panicked and went after him.

“I…you’re my mate, Nicole. When I saw you leave town I had to come and make sure you’d be okay…and maybe even talk you into going home,” I said with a shrug.

Her face changed to anger but her eyes showed a spark of desire at the word “mate.” “Chase I am not your mate! I am not a werewolf!” she yelled slapping my chest, despite the fact that it didn’t hurt me as much as it hurt her. “I don’t care who you are or what you say it is not possible,” she said.

“Nicole, why are you denying it so much? What is so wrong about being a werewolf?” I asked catching her hand in mine.

“Because—you know what? I don’t have to explain a damned thing to you Chase,” she snapped tugging her hand away. “Get out and leave me alone. I don’t care who the hell you are.”

“Nicole, I am not leaving you here alone. At least let me talk you to a hotel where I know you’ll be safe,” I suggested.

“No, I can’t afford a nice place,” she said shaking her head and crossing her arms tightly over her chest.

“I can,” I shrugged. “I’m not letting you stay here alone.”

“You don’t have a choice, I’ll call the police,” she warned.

That wouldn’t be good. There was another pack in this area. Some of them were police officers. “We’ll be gone before they get here,” I said, unsure of how true that really was.

“Y-you don’t know that for sure,” she glared.

I dipped down and folded her over my shoulder lifting her up. I ignored her smacks and loud protests as I carried her to my car. “I’ll get someone to get your car later.”

“Put me down Chase!” she screeched.

I opened the passenger side door and set her in the seat. I locked the door before closing it and walking to the other side. I climbed in and she punched my cheek.

“You stupid—“ she failed to find the right word for a moment. “Werewolf!”

“Wow, great job on the name calling,” I said sarcastically as I cranked up the car.

“Let me the fuck out of this car, Chase,” she said pulling on the handle of her door. “I will break the stupid window.”

I reached over and grabbed her chin, pulling her in for a kiss. She didn’t protest or try to stop me. Her hands came up my neck and her fingers tangled in my hair. She pulled me closer, kissing me back. I could feel the passion radiating off her body as she did this.

She pulled back a bit. “I left my bag in my car.”

“I’ll go grab it,” I whispered reaching for my door. I held out a hand for her keys. She slid them in my hand and sat back in her seat. I got out and walked to her car.
