"Why you walking like that?", Kayla asked while side-eyeing me.

"Like what?", I responded.

I'm trying to play it cool, please face don't turn red.

"Like a fucking penguin, bitch.", she laughed.

"Bitch.", I laughed back.

We walked into the AP English class we had together and took our seats.

This week we were watching the movie "Of Mice And Man".

"Alrighty. I'm going to start the movie. Remember....you can fall asleep but just know you will also fail the quiz after.", Mr.Hernandez deadpanned before smiling and pressing play on the CD player.

Feeling my phone vibrate on my desk, I picked it up to glance at it.

It was a text from Kayla.

'So you going to tell me why you were walking like that or I got to beat it out of you?', it read with a mad emoji.

'Can you mind the business that pays you? Lol, no forreal, I will tell you later, booski.', I replied with a kiss face emoji.

Looking across the room at her, I saw her dancing in her seat while looking at my text I assume.

She so weird.

Soon class ended and we headed out into the hall way.

We walked past the office and I saw Devin sitting in a chair next to the same black man that I saw at the park.

The man looked annoyed while Devin looked mad.

His shirt was torn a bit and he had his fist clenched.

"I'll meet you after school, okay?", I asked Kayla while stopping in front of the office window.

"Hm. Okay.", she said.

She looked like she wanted to say more but decided not to before walking away.

I walked into the office and sat in the empty seat next to Devin.

"What happened?", I asked while placing my hand on his back.

He was leaning his elbows on his legs with his head in his hands so he jumped when he felt my touch.

"Don't fucking touch me.", he huffed while standing up and walking away.

I'm confused as fuck.

Is he mad at me?

"What's going on?", I asked standing up and following after him.

When we got into the hallway, I grabbed his shoulder and turned him to face me.

"You. Harrison told me that you and him are back together. That y'all fucked.", he yelled.

Everyone started to look out of their classrooms into the hallway.

"What? Devin....I've been with you every single day so how does that make sense?", I asked him while grabbing his hands.

He snatched away from me and turned away from me.

"I saw him leaving your house last night, Valerie.", he mumbled before walking away from me.

As I watched him walk away from me, I could feel eyes all over me.

My eyes started to water.
