This is a new story that I've decided to write. This won't affect the updating of The Hope Collection at all. I will post on this story when I'm finished with a chapter in The Hope Collection, so this story won't be updated as recently and the chapters won't be as long. This also isn't the normal kind of thing I write about, so it's kind of new to me. I've been thinking of the plot a lot lately and it's kind of sad and depressing. You have been warned. Happy reading.

"You useless girl!," Ariel's father shouts at her.
"I didn't do anything father," Ariel shrieks what her father, King Triton, slaps her across the face.
With her father being the king of the oceans he's allowed to do anything, including yelling and beating Ariel since she looks so much like her dead mother who died during childbirth with her. Ariel is the youngest and her father saw her as a mistake at the age of only seven. Now Ariel was fifteen, almost sixteen. Triton had been threatening to disown Ariel and banish her from the ocean kingdom. She would be forced to live in the rivers and lakes where humans would be able to easily catch her.
The humans fascinated Ariel, but she knew from the stories the merpeople say that the humans would capture them and run all sorts of awful tests because they are part human, too. Ariel didn't believe such silly rumors, though they did bother her. Why would her people create such fearful rumors if they didn't exist? Not all humans are like the ones in the stories, Ariel thought, and hopefully she was correct about one thing in her life.
After her father had hit her a few times across the face she retired to her bedchambers. Sure she was the princess, but even she needed to cry after the way her father had treated her. She runs into her room, making sure to lock her door, and throws herself onto her fluffy coral green bed. She cries for what seems like hours before her eyes are so dry she can't cry anymore. She sniffles and looks in the giant mirror across her room.
Her face is red and bruised already from the beating this time and old bruises and scars cover her beautiful face from the beatings before. Her eyes and puffy and red from the tears she has been crying and her nose is bright red from her wiping it to stop it from running. I'm ugly, Ariel thinks to herself, of course no one cares about me. I need to leave, I can't live like this anymore. Always in fear, always near the ones who hate me enough to hit me.
