"Hey Goldilocks, can I ask you something?," Ariel whispered.
It was night and they were both supposed to be sleeping, but both of them had stuff on their minds. Goldilocks is thinking about what happened during the day with Little Bear. It wasn't a shock to her that they were still stalking her, but it was a shock for one of them to come up to her in public and speak to her as if nothing was wrong. Ariel had something different on her mind, she was thinking about the recent kidnapping of Belle, one of the villagers.
"Yes, what is it Ariel?," Goldilocks says worriedly, Ariel sounds so distressed, which isn't usual compared to her normal happy self.
"May and I were talking while we sorted through clothes today. I asked her about the missing posters I've seen around the village. She told me Belle's the missing girl's name, that she's the inventor's daughter. How long has she been missing? Surely you know, she's our age," Ariel looks over at Goldilocks, though she can't see her due to the lights being off.
"Yes, I knew her. She's been missing for nearly two weeks now. She was quiet, though, and didn't have any close friends. She was friendly enough, but she always had her nose stuck in a book. It prevented her from getting close to anyone. The prince always seemed to be keeping his eye on her, I don't know how anyone would be able to get close enough to her to speed off with her without the prince noticing. Every time he comes to town, now, he's always helping search for her. He comforts the inventor, he puts missing posters up, and all while his expression is grave and his heart looks broken. He misses her but there's been no clues or leads of where she might be or who took her, most people are starting to give up searching for her," Goldilocks sighs and frowns staring up at the ceiling.
"She couldn't have just disappeared, though. I'm sure there are clues, but everyone's skipping right over them as if they were troublesome pebbles in the road. I was thinking we could help search for her. Ever since I got here I wanted to help you humans and I've been watching how you act, you seem upset and distracted about something. This can be a distraction for you," Ariel's high-pitched voice cut through the darkness in her excitement.
"Whoa, whoa, calm down, we can't just go and ask people questions. We have to be secretive otherwise we won't find her, the kidnapper will run before we ask them," Goldilocks explains.
"Then let's get started tomorrow, right?," Ariel asks.
"Of course we can. Good night Ariel," Goldilocks yawns and smiles.
"That's good, good night to you too Goldilocks," Ariel smiles and yawns in response to Goldilocks' yawn.
And with that they both fell into a quiet slumber of soft breathing.
