The garden wall

Y/N ran through the woods, a race between him, and whatever his imagination came up with.

The young boy explored the small forest outside his home town often, the familiar pieces of broken gadgets and funny shaped rocks led to his hideout.

It was the place he spent most his time when he wasn't in school, he made it himself with dead branches he found, leaning them against a boulder and securing them with old dry rotting rope he had found.

Despite knowing the area well, he never ventured much farther than the nearby water. It was a beautiful sight, the clear water rushing down a trail of smooth rock, it wasn't hard to spot wildlife along it for a refreshing drink.

This time though, Y/N ran past his hideout, barely slowing down to put his bag from school down. He zipped past the trees and numerous animals, straight to the creek. As he stood at the edge of it, he took a deep breath, knowing if he wanted to go further into his explorations, that he needed to hurry, or he might not make it home in time and risk getting in trouble.

He took a step into the cold water, the creek only going as deep as his ankles. As he carefully stepped along the slippery stone, his head a rush with excitement, hoping for all of the things he may find.

The pebbles crunched under his foot as he stepped out of the water, clear from the risk of slipping, he ran again. The child filled with energy and excitement darted around the unfamiliar area taking in as many details as he could.

He found an interesting tree, one with some of its roots above ground, naturally forming shelter. The perfect place for a new hideout, for an adventurous child. Before he could decide if it was hideout worthy, he decided to climb it.

The sturdy roots above ground were easy enough to climb, but it took a bit more work to pull himself onto the lowest branch. After a bit of struggle he continued up, climbing higher and higher.

He got to almost the very top of the tree, where there was a small break in the branches and leaves, just enough to see out around him. Peering out, he could see the edge of a beautiful white stone wall, he was unable to see beyond it, but its existance filled him with curiosity.
He started his decent from the tree, unknowing of the small castle sitting just out of his view.

He gained a few scrapes as he clumsily climbed down, he was trying to go as fast as possible to investigate the wall. He took a risky leap, down onto the roots below. Barely managing the jump, he slipped off the roots like a slide, uninjured, he touched the soft grass below.

Letting out a relived sigh, he stood up and walked in the direction of his discovery. Trees surrounding the child grew thinner the farther he goes, seeing a sliver of white between them, he broke into a sprint. The forest around him grew thinner as he saw more and more of the white stone, until he escaped from their line, in a small clearing just outside the wall.
