"That will be 5 dollars and 45 cents." Taehyung smiled brightly at the guy in front of him, taking the money from his hand and giving him the right amount of change before pushing the 3 bagels over the counter.
"Thank you, have a nice day!"
The guy nodded, took his food and left. Not even bothering to smile.
Taehyung scoffed, internally, because there were more people in line waiting and he had to pretend to be nice to everyone, even to the not so nice people. Well he didn't have to, technically, but he kind of wanted to keep his job. Especially since one of his coworkers was sent straight from heaven- or hell, depending on Taehyung's mood. Most of the time it was hell, though, given that he probably had around...countless wet dreams about Jungkook and it took particular long showers to get rid of the images.
But anyways.
„What can I do for you today?" Taehyung chirped with the same signature smile, waiting patiently for the girl in front to choose a drink. She's been here before, Taehyung recognised the bright red sunglasses sitting atop her nose and her soft features. She appeared to be younger than him, maybe two or three years.
Her eyes wandered over the menu for a few seconds before she shrugged, her lips curving into a warm smile. „I'll just take the regular. Black coffee, no sugar." A pause before she added, „Maybe a shot of vodka."
Taehyung chuckled. „Rough night?"
„More like rough day," She replied, shaking her head. „Got like, 4 exams coming up next week. Important ones too."
Exams? Taehyung guessed she was in college then. With quick movements he turned on the coffee-machine, getting out one of the cups along with a little cookie. He wasn't really allowed to do that but it sounded like that girl would pull a couple all nighters the next days and thought she might like something sweet.
„Good luck with that. Your total is 2 dollars 60 cents." He put a lid over the now hot, blue coloured cup, pushing the cookie over the counter as well. „I'll be here waiting in case you need more coffee.„
Her next expression was probably one of the reasons why Taehyung loved his job. The corners of her mouth quirked up, turning into a full blown smile she tried biting back. She reached for both, handing over $5. „Thank you. I- just thank you. Now I really need to come back, huh?"
Taehyung saluted her, opening the register to get the change. „I hope so. Need to know if you aced those exams, right?"
Before he could give her the money, the girl shook her head, pushing it back to Taehyung. „Keep the rest. But next time I expect actual vodka in my coffee. Deal?"
Again he smiled, mouth twitching and he put the money into the jar where everyone put the tips. By the end of the month they'd empty it, split it fair so everyone got the same amount.
„Deal." He said and watched her ponytail bounce as she left, a warmth spreading through his body. He preferred nice people over the grumpy ones any day, definitely. He even preferred the ones that would hold up the line to strike up a conversation because Taehyung was curious about the people he met over the day. He never got tired of the many stories, like last week when he met a lady that travelled around the world. He listened carefully to everything she had to say and found it immensely interesting when she mentioned all the cities she's been to but apparently he was taking too long to finish up the order.
His coworker, Seokjin, had to physically pull him away from the counter so he wouldn't cause a riot in the busy café by talking to an elderly women for 10 minutes.
