I knocked on the door of Wag's castle. A distraught Wag appeared from behind the door. He motioned for me to enter, so I did. He brought me to a small table and began to brew some tea.
"So what can I help you with?" He asked turning his attention to me.
"Dianite wants me on his side." I was focused on the tea kettle rather than Wag. I could feel him try to read my emotion.
"Do you want to be on his side?" He finally asked.
"I don't know. That's why I'm here." He sighed and sat down in front of me.
"Why don't you join his side?" I was shocked by the question. Mainly because I didn't know completely.
"It just doesn't feel right. And, what if Ianite hurts someone else?" I scanned Wag's face. His hair stuck up in odd directions and his eyes looked unbelievably tired. Stubble bagan to take over the bottom half of his face.
"Why would you join his side?" He asked yet another question I could hardly answer.
"Ianite keeps betraying me. I'm doubting just how balanced she is." The tea kettle started whistling, interrupting the conversation. Wag got up to pour tea for the both of us. I sipped out of the cup Wag had handed to me.
"You could always be godless for a while," he said, raising the cup to his lips. I hadn't thought about that. Then, I could be truly neutral.
"I might do that." I thought for a moment. "How exactly do you formally unfollow a god?" The only situation in which that has really happened was someone leaves a god to follow another. Wag came into this world godless and remained that way.
"I'm not co-" A knock, echoing through the castle, cut him off. "Just a moment." Wag stood up and made his way over to the door. Sonja followed Wag inside.
"Is there a potion or a spell that would most Tucker a little less, well, insane?" Sonja asked Wag. "Hey, Jordan!" She smiled and waved after spotting me at the table. I smiled back. I was glad she didn't hate me like Tucker did.
"Not that I know of," Wag said, continuing the conversation. "I could give him a bit of a time out, though."
"What do you mean?" Sonja's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"I have a spell that blinds, disarms, weakens, and slows."
"Okay, can we use it on him now. I came over because he's only getting worse."
"Of course. Jordan you might want to avoid being anywhere near Tucker and us." I nodded in agreement. The ran out through the door to find and hopefully fix Tucker. I decided to stay at Wag's because it seemed to be the safest place I could be at the moment. I didn't want to risk flying in the open yet. I sipped at the tea for a few minutes, trying to come up with a way to explain that I wanted to be godless to the gods. After fifteen minutes of planning what to say, Dianite appeared in the chair opposite of mine. The small table wouldn't provide a very good barrier if Dianite were to get angry.
"I want to be godless," I blurt out, immediately covering my mouth with my hands. Dianite looked just as shocked as I did.
"Why is that?" Dianite looked hurt. Was he really offended that I chose no god over him.
"It's the only way to be truly balanced and neutral," I defended. It wasn't my intention to hurt him.
"It's the only way to be a bystander. Do you really want to watch you friends be murdered by gods and not have a god to back you up and get justice?" I could tell he was holding back his anger.
"Fate will punish the gods."
"Fate has never punished Mianite!" Dianite slammed his fist on the table, knocking the tea cup off the table and letting it shatter on the floor. "Do you really not understand? Ianite is corrupt, and I have nobody left!"
