"Come on Clarice! We don't want the neighbors to run out of candy before we get there," said Vivian, who was waiting in Clarice's living room.

It was Halloween night and Clarice had incited her friends over until she was ready. She was just now putting her costume shirt on, and grabbing the props and her basket for the candy. She started to run down the stairs towards the living room, where she found her mom offering her friends a piece of her dark velvet spider cake. It had spider webs made out of icing, and a giant spider gummy on the top. Her friends were each eating a piece, and praising her mom for the delicious snack that she had baked.

"Thank you Mrs. Wilson, this velvet cake is delicious!" Josh said munching on a piece.

"You're welcome Josh, I just love it when people love to eat my food that I make," her mom said, cutting out another piece and handing it to him.

Clarice sat down beside her friends as her mom gave her a piece of the cake. She ate it quickly, but was still enjoying every bite. When they all finished eating her mom gave her some snacks in case they got hungry while trick or treating, then they headed out the door.

"Your mom's baking is the best! You must be happy to eat her desserts when she makes them," said Vivian, who was finishing her last bite of her piece.

"Her cooking is awesome, me and my dad are very lucky," she said, proud of her mom's baking.

"Ok guys, quite the talking, we have houses we need to get candy from," Josh said, already ahead of them on the sidewalk.

Both Vivian and Clarice quickly caught up to him, and they raced down the sidewalk. They all talked and laughed as they headed towards maple st.

------------------------

"Trick or treat!" all three of them said.

They were now on their tenth house and it was Mrs. Diane's house, she was one of the best teachers they had ever had. Everyone loved Mrs. Diane, even though she was a teacher who tried to encourage eating healthy, she would get an apple and give the kids caramel to go with it.

"Why hello kids, you guys having fun trick or treating?" She asked them as she got the apples and caramel.

"Yes, we have gotten a bunch of candy already, and it's only been a quarter of the night." said Vivian, who was already holding out her basket.

"That's good, I hope you kids get lots of candy, but don't forget to brush your teeth afterwards. Stay safe and have fun," Mrs. Diane said, after placing the apples and caramel in their baskets.

They were almost done with maple st. and near the old abandoned manor. Nobody had ever dared to knock on the door to the manor on Halloween, because once a boy got taken into the house and was never seen again. Most people thought that it was something that the previous owner made up, so kids wouldn't go and knock on their door on Halloween, but some people said they watched the little boy go into the building and that the search team couldn't find him. They approached the abandoned building and their plan was to turn around after the had reached it, but someone had different plans.

"Hey Clarice, I dare you to walk up to the manor and knock on the door. I bet you ten dollars that you wouldn't," said Vivian, who had a smirk on her face.

Clarice looked at her a little surprised, usually Vivian was worried about shady people and buildings in the neighborhood. She looked over to Josh who also seemed surprised by what Vivian had said. Vivian still had a smirk on her face waiting for an answer.

"Ok, but you promise that if I do you'll give me ten dollars?" Clarice asked, just to make sure that Vivian would keep her promise.

"I promise that I'll give you the money. Just go knock on the door already," Vivian said, as she watched Clarice.

Clarice went up to the stairs of the porch, she looked back at her friends who were both standing there watching her. She started walking up the stairs as each one creaked and cracked under her feet, she stared up at the old broken building. The walls about to give way under the weight of the rest of the building, the wind breathed through the treeless leaves. The dead dreary grass and the trees were dead, while the fence cracked with the wind as it swayed the fence back and forth. She raised her hand and balled it into a fist bringing it close to the door, she hesitated, something about this house didn't feel good. She quickly knocked on the door and waited, expecting some ghostly figure to answer. When no one answered she turned back to her friends who were still standing there, she shrugged as if telling them that no one was home. Suddenly, she heard the door creak open, and a pain in the back of her head, then everything went black.
