Chapter 9

"Ye... Yeji..."

"Oh my god! Nurse! Nurse come on, she's awake!"

Ryujin could swear she heard the voice of her friend and namesake Yuna in the distance but as the seconds passed, she heard her closer and closer, almost as if she was yelling in her ear.

Her mind was blurry, she didn't know what was happening or where she was, everything was in complete darkness, but little by little she started to regain consciousness, to remember...

What happened?

Ryujin started to open her eyes little by little, when suddenly she saw a blinding light enter one of her eyes and a shadow of a woman behind.

"Miss, we're going to ask you to step out for a moment, we're going to examine Miss Shin, when we know she's okay again, you can go in to see her."

"But–"

"Come on, Yuna."

At once she heard some footsteps walking away and then she was able to open her eyes slowly. Everything fell into her sight and the first thing she saw was a white ceiling and a coldness entering her body.

What had happened?

"Yeji..." She whispered, it was the only thing she could say, as a doctor approached her and a nurse was taking her vital signs.

"Miss Shin... How are you feeling?"

Ryujin had a pounding headache, but even that couldn't distract her from what was in her head, all she could think about was Yeji and that she was okay, that dream she had that she remembered as if it had actually happened had her heart in her mouth.

She began to remember her face crying as that damned man clutched her in his arms and her body shuddered at the thought that something could have happened to Yeji too.

"W-where am I... Where is Ye-mmm Yeji?"

The raven-haired woman tried to sit up in bed, but the doctor stopped her.

"Miss Shin, you need to stay calm, we will be taking some tests to see if everything is all right now.... You were lucky you were brought alive to the hospital."

Ryujin frowned because none of that was what she wanted to hear, but then the headache made her close her eyes again and she tried to take a deep breath lying on the bed, to try to think what could have happened.

"Yeji, I want to see Yeji!" she kept repeating softly and the nurse exchanged glances with the doctor who nodded. The nurse left the room.

"There are two women outside, we will call them immediately, but we'll continue with the procedures soon."

The doctor left the room and then after a few seconds two people came through the door.

Ryujin tried to get up to sit on the gurney, but she quickly felt hands trying to help her get up there. She looked up to meet the gaze of her best friend, Yuna. Who had tear-filled eyes and a smile of joy.

"My goodness Ryujin, I thought you wouldn't survive."

"Where's Yeji?"

Yuna frowned and that's when she realized that Chaeryeong, Yuna's girlfriend, had entered the room as well and was behind her.

"Ryujin, are you okay?"

The raven-haired held back the urge to roll her eyes because no one was giving her the answers she wanted. All she cared to know was where she was.

"Where is Yeji! Damn it!" She exclaimed and Yuna jumped a little. Ryujin put her hand to her head because the pain was kind of insufferable.

"Ryu, please don't be like this, you need to calm down first.... I–"
