Long before time had a name, the First Spinjitzu Master left the Realm of the Dragon and the Oni after being unable to choose a side within their eternal conflict.

After traversing the sixteen realms eventually, he stumbled upon a world with a vast ocean engulfed in chaos. Primarily due to the vicious sea serpent, Wojira.
Despite the combined efforts between the land-dwelling Keepers and the sea-dwelling Merlopians, Wojira could not be bested. That was until the first elemental master of water, Nyad, sacrificed herself by merging with the sea to defeat the serpent.
After Wojira's defeat, the First Spinjitzu Master charged the Keepers and Merlopians with protecting the amulets that gave Wojira her power so that she could never again create chaos in the world.
Eventually, the First Spinjitzu Master would forge the four golden weapons of Spinjitzu, the Scythe of Quakes, the Shurikens of Ice, the Nunchucks of Lightning, and the Sword of Fire, and use them to create the lands of Ninjago.
But where there is light, there must always be darkness. In that darkness spawned the Overlord, a corrupted being who sought to destroy the balance that the First Spinjitzu Master was trying to maintain.

Unfortunately, the conflict between the First Spinjitzu Master and the Overlord was locked into a stalemate. With no other options, the First Spinjitzu Master split apart the land to trap the Overlord.
In doing so, his powers were released and manifested into physical forms.
One manifested as a being of creation to represent the Dragon.
