First off, I just wanna say sorry for inactivity. I haven't been in a very writey mood lately.
That's right. I just made up a word. Aren't I great?
To the story:
...
"How was school?"I whirl around, holding my arms protectively in front of my face.
Rachelle jumps back, looking surprised.
"God, Jack. It's just me." She says.
I sigh and put my arms down. I've been jumpy the whole walk home, thinking someone would jump out and attack me. This whole thing with Lena, and the Unifiers, and everything seems...unreal. Unbelievable. And I'm not sure if I completely believe it. I desperately want to. To believe that I could finally destroy Max, once and for all.
But seriously. Who just randomly comes up to you and goes, "I have a great plan to help you destroy your mortal enemy. All you have to do is feed white-dressed men info once a week. You're welcome."? It sounds suspicious to me.
"Sorry." I say. "I had a...meeting today. Kind of paranoid."
She pouts sympathetically and wraps her arms around my neck. "You wanna talk about it?" She asks.
"No." I say too quickly. She takes this the wrong way and backs up, looking hurt. I grab her arm and pull her back.
"No, it's fine." I say, gentler. I slide my hands around to her back. "It's not important. If it was, I'd tell you." I lie, kissing her lips lightly.
"You promise?" She asks. I nod.
"Promise." I say. She smiles and stands on her toes, pecking me on the lips. I move one hand up to her neck and hold her there, drawing out the kiss. I lean down so that she doesn't have to stand on her toes. She brings a hand up to my face.
"Jackson! Open up!" Someone shouts, knocking on the door.
I groan and turn around, detaching myself from Rachelle.
"Good afternoon, Jackson." Says Lena, inviting herself in as soon as the door is open enough. She stops when she sees Rachelle.
"Oh." She says, backing up. "I'll go. We can talk later."
"No, it's fine." I say quickly. "We need to talk anyway."
Rachelle tugs on my sleeve, asking for my attention. I turn to her.
"Yes?" I ask.
She pouts. "You're not cheating on me, are you?" She whispers. I frown.
"No, of course not." I reply, turning around to face her. "Why would you think that?"
"Why did she wanna leave since I was here?" She asks.
Oh. She thinks I'm cheating on her with Lena. Gross.
I grimace. "No." I say. "No, that's not it at all. She's just here to talk to me about my meeting. There's nothing to worry about."
She shifts uncomfortably. "You promise?" She repeats.
I smile. "Promise." I lie.
She smiles lightly, but she still doesn't look completely convinced.
I kiss her on the cheek. "You can go in the bedroom and watch TV or something if you want. I'll be there in a minute." I suggest. "I just need to talk to Lena."
She nods, reaching up and kissing me for a second before turning away and heading towards my room...which has pretty much become our room, but I still consider it mine. I watch her as she turns to look at me at the last second. I can tell she's probably gonna listen at the door. I'll just make sure not to say anything she'll easily see through.
