*Tessa's POV*

I wake up muttering obscenities under my breath.

Oh god not another school day, I think as I roll out of bed, getting ready in a zombie-like fashion. I can't think of a reason that I like school. Honestly, I love reading and learning in general, but school itself makes me wish i could punch myself with a brick so that I won't have to go.

As I'm brooding over the thought of going to school in a few minutes, I look in the mirror.

My chestnut brown hair flows over my steely gray eyes as I hopelessly try to comb over it. As I finally give up, I finish getting ready and walk into the kitchen.

"Hello, sunshine, you look happy today." My mom's voice comes from my right as I grumpily eat my banana nut muffin.

"It's a new look I'm going for," I giggle, a rare thing for me, since I always try to be logical when I talk, ever since last year.

I shake my head, ridding my mind of the horrible events.

Looking at the time, I realize it's time for me to go.

I kiss my mom on the cheek, telling her goodbye as I run out the door and head for school.

---------------------------------------------------

I meet up with Zoe, as she walks in with her hips swaying, making her green eyes sparkle. Her curly blonde hair and olive toned skin easily make her the prettiest girl in school, but she's too crazy for any guy to handle so far.

"Look alive, sunshine," She mutters as she sees me.

I smile at her reference, and walk in a slightly better mood.

"So, where were you last night? I kept calling you!" I scold her as close in on the Science room.

Zoe waves away the answer, and we take our seats. I hate science class because we have assigned seats, and Zoe sits all the way across the room!

"Alright class!" The teacher chides, making us settle down, "I have some exciting news! Today we have TWO new students joining us!"

I catch Zoe's attention and we both raise our eyebrows in interest.

"Their names are William Herondale and Jem Carstairs, and they're coming all the way from England!" My teacher exclaims, then drops her voice into a low murmur, saying "Please don't be assholes when they walk in, thank you."

As she finishes her sentence, the first subject of her monologue walks in, and my jaw mentally drops.
